The alpha and omega of electronic dance music

Haçeteria is my favorite place to dance. I know it’s at Deco Lounge in the Tenderloin, but it’s worth the trip, for real. Plus, this month’s special guest sounds like a party unto himself:

One of the Bay Area’s top gear gurus, Breath Control, aka Greg Zifcak creates original tunes that are a modern take on vintage house and techno sounds from decades ago. Zifcak excels in steering around the unpredictable bend, obscured by the fog and darkness. Past work in Eats Tapes and Wav Dwgs exemplify Zifcak’s masterful programming of crisp percussion and hazy jack-your-body synths.

RSVP and invite your friends!

Lastly, here’s a special new mix by resident DJ Tristes Tropiques to help get you pumped:

Springtime is here!

Noticed these blossoms late last night!

FRGMNTS hijinks

I haven’t been to an art show in quite a while (I know, Philistine), but this stuff caught my eye enough to make me want to check it out tomorrow! I’m always a sucker for mesmerizing line formations and outdated textbooks (I found a Creationist Biology one from the 80s once…oh man), and these two interests will both be on display in fine fashion over at Gallery Hijinks this Saturday from 6-10pm.

Check out all the details here.

Bothering strangers at a restaurant to show them a meme you like

What’s with people and their toys at Flour + Water? First there was that iPad tennis thing, and now Beth Spotswood shares the story of some ladies at the communal table accosting her and her friends with memes on an iPhone:

The photo was of a little Asian boy. And across his forehead were the letter, “HERRO.” Big Chris, who is half-Asian, politely laughed. He doesn’t give a shit. And Brittney, who was the farthest away, couldn’t really even see. But I did not politely laugh. I said, “I never thought I’d see someone show a stranger a racist photo at flour + water!”

One of the women said, “It’s okay, I’m half Korean!”

What’s with people? Read on.
