This Thursday night, the Cal Academy and Noise Pop are having a very special party. Here’s the deal:

[T]his week NightLife is all about earthquakes! Be among the first to see the Academy’s newly opened Earthquake exhibit and planetarium show, complete with shake table and live ostriches. Also enjoy an Earthquake Sundae-eating competition by Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop, soundQuake, meet the folks from the US Geological Survey and SPUR. Live music by Weekend and Violens presented by Noise Pop.

Sounds good! To win, tell us your best earthquake-related anecdote (or I guess an ostrich-related anecdote would work) in the comments section below. A winner will be chosen based on merit and awarded a pair of tickets for the party. Contest ends at noon on Wednesday.

Here’s a tip: Next time you’re at a bar bummed that the bar pretzels are just a little too lacking in zest, send someone to Whole Foods for a jar of Biscoff Spread — it’s like creamified ginger bread, kind of peanut buttery but containing no nuts, only spices and sweetness and creaminess. And it goes great washed down with that Double Chocolate Stout I mentioned.

Here’s a tip: Next time you’re at Shotwell’s bummed that you can’t get shots of bourbon to go with your beers, get shots of Young’s Double Chocolate Stout. It’s no bourbon, but it’s thick and heavy and fun to shoot.

Bethany and Jake met at an American Tripps party last year, and they hit it off like crazy, and everyone that knows them agrees they’re staggeringly perfect for each other. Friday night, Jake got up on the big main stage at Rickshaw Stop and popped the question. Bethany said yes and the whole crowd cheered (and I almost cried). Best wishes, you guys! Berlin-style ping pong + Bethany + Jake 4ever!!!!
