Spicy fried chicken and biscuit sandwich (with fries)

Eater SF yesterday published a list of awesome “secret” menu items at restaurants around the city. Here’s one in the heart of the Mission:

Hog & Rocks
Where: 3431 19th Street, website
What: For late night (10 p.m. to midnight), the bar offers it’s most popular brunch item, a spicy fried chicken and biscuit sandwich. It’s $15 served with their juiced up “half-and-half” fries. You’ll have to try them to find out whatthat means.

I wonder if you can get it animal-style! Read on for more big secrets.

Do you guys ever have that experience?

Berlin-style ping pong returns to the Mission this Saturday afternoon at El Rio!

From American Tripps on Facebook:

It’s been two long months since we had a party in the Mission, but we’re coming back full force! El Rio, if you’re not familiar, is one of the finest party venues in the city, and we’ll have ping pong tables set up in each of its three spaces – front room, back room, patio.

DJ Joe Finkel will be on the decks, spinning rock ‘n’ roll, glam and power pop, and Rocky’s Frybread will be on the scene in case you get hungry. This is gonna be siiiick!!

El Rio rules! Daydrinking rules! Joe Finkel rules! Rocky’s Frybread rules! Ping pong ping pong! RSVP and invite your friends!

Hipster pickpocket

That’s him there (allegedly), in the Kelly Kate glasses and stonewashed denim. He and his crew were out in full force of the weekend, taking advantage of the hordes of people out celebrating Pride. Mo, one of his victims, tells her story (on Reddit):

The way he pickpocketed me is this: He came up to me, grabbed me from behind, and told me to take a picture with him. I didn’t know this guy, so this was super confusing, but he seemed like he was trying to grab my camera maybe, so I handed the camera to my friend, who then took the photo. Afterwards, he scurried off with his friends and me and my friend were left wondering, “wtf drugs was this dude on…?”

It wasn’t until a few seconds later, when another woman (who I didn’t know) came up to me and said, “I saw that guy take your phone when he grabbed you!” and I looked in my pocket and indeed my phone was missing. This was long enough that he had disappeared into the sea of thousands in Dolores, though a couple of my friends spent a while trying to hunt him down to no avail. [link]

Yikes. Another Reddit user recognized him:

Him and at least one other person used to run scams in the Union Square area. They would come in and grab large amounts of product to “purchase” around Christmas time. When they got to the sales counter they would provide a credit card and an out of state drivers license(it was from Hawaii when I dealt with them) a form of ID. When the card was run through the computer would kick out a number to call for confirmation and one of their friends would be on the other end and would give you a confirmation number. And for some reason any number will allow the transaction to go through. I loathe him. [link]

And yet another warns that he and his crew are potentially dangerous:

This guy and his shitty friends used to come into the Castro Chevron and shoplift everyday. His friend has lips tattooed on his neck. They are known to pepper spray you if you give chase. Real tough guys. :/ [link]

So the next time you try to take a picture of this guy and his cute outfit for your fashion blog, make sure you keep your valuables locked up tight.

(Thanks, Chris and Danyell.)

If you’ve always wanted to adopt a kitten, but balked at the adoption fees, this is your chance to partake in the joy that is cat ownership. To get you pumped up, here’s a clip of the band Free Kitten at the MTV Beach House in 1994. Kittens!!!

The Fog Bender, now a weekly series only on Mission Mission

If you haven’t spent the last couple weeks bumming that the Fog Bender discontinued both his blog and Twitter account, it can only be because you’ve never seen the Fog Bender’s blog and Twitter account — and now you never will (except for the numerous hijackings we managed to pull off).

But! The good news is the Fog Bender is hard at work on a new regular series of comic strips and other work, and we’re thrilled to announce WE GET TO PUBLISH THEM RIGHT HERE ON MISSION MISSION!

Here’s the first, a humble intro to our protagonist:

Can’t wait for more? Check out this message from the man himself:

i wanna paint more murals. after painting in clarion last week, i have got the itch. please write me if you have a dumb blank wall that needs fogbending. thefogbender@gmail thankees <3

So, be sure to take advantage of that.

Forthcoming fake Muni ad will parody American Apparel using photo of urinating woman

Tipster (not hipster) Lillian spills the beans:

It will be monochromatic featuring a photograph of a girl taking a piss and Helvetica type mimicking the iconic signage of a once popular hipster clothing spot. [link]

I mean, I guess we can only hope it’s our girl:

Anyway, whoever sees it first wins a prize!

Treasure Island Music Festival 2012 starring Girl Talk, Public Enemy, the XX, M83 and more, on sale tomorrow

I saw Girl Talk and the Presets play the same bill about 6 or 7 years ago at some weird dance music festival at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and it was awesome. This is going to be a blast. Treasure Island is consistently my favorite local festival (what with its epic views and chill vibe and great lineups that don’t overlap so you don’t miss anything), so, as I tell everyone I know every year, you should check it out, possibly even if you don’t like festivals at all.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10AM right here.

P.S. Public Enemy???
