Reducing waste through partying

It’s called Score, and it’s happening this weekend at the new 1564 MRKT space. Here’s how it works:

Bring your old clothes, accessories, books or vinyl, pay an entrance fee, and take whatever you like… for free! Pretty simple.

Plus live screenprinting (WorkshopSF), photobooth (curated by 31RAX), awesome food (Tamale Los Mayas), killer music (DJs King MostFreddy Anzures) and of course, FREE BEER (Speakeasy Brewery). Leftover items will be donated to Goodwill, and proceeds from the event will benefit awesome local charities.

Advance tickets are only $5 and they’re going fast! Full details here.

Drink of the Week: Strawberry-balsamic margarita

Strawberry-balsamic margarita! Like the strawberry-balsamic ice cream at Bi-Rite! It’s like the reverse of the Jesus Juice sorbet at Humphry’s: instead of taking a delicious alcoholic drink and turning it into a delicious frozen dessert, they took a delicious frozen dessert and turned it into a delicious alcoholic drink!

It’s sweet and strong, with a zing, and very good-looking. Find it at Hog & Rocks.

Drink of the week is brought to you by Poachedjobs.com.

The House of Babes

Lots of great Pride partying in the Mission this year! Here’s another:

On Saturday June 29th, three of San Francisco’s most popular queer dance parties – Stay Gold, Fix yr Hair and Swagger Like Us – present The House of Babes, an epic Dyke March after-party. This eight-hour long event features two dance floors with the hottest local and national DJs spinning all of your favorite booty dropping jams, live musical, drag and dance performances, multiple cocktail bars and local food vendors. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Lyric, a local LGBTQQI organization.

Seriously, how difficult is it to park your vehicle in a parking spot?

20130626-091148.jpg

Granted, the driver of that red sedan has merely picked a selfish spot to wait in their car, but those two trucks behind him have no excuse. Just because the guy in front of you parks like a jerk doesn’t mean you have to as well! And since these marked parking spots are already enlarged to accommodate your massive gas-guzzlers, there’s really no excuse for failing to stay between the lines. DO BETTER NEXT TIME.

Ok, that’s enough Stanely Roberts for one morning. I’m gonna go listen to ABBA all day to celebrate the Supreme Court’s strike down of the Defense of Marriage Act and last night’s inspirational filibuster in Texas! Prediction: there will not be enough champagne in the city.

Singin’ and Pingin’ returns to Verdi Club this Saturday!

Here’s what’s up:

Well, Singin’ & Pingin’ used to be a once-in-a-while thing, but the last one at Verdi Club was so epicly fun, we decided to do it all over again, just two months later (and a month after the extravaganza at Z Space).

DJ Purple (http://djpurple.com/) will be rocking the dance floor, and we’ll have two ping pong tables going all night!

ALSO, Verdi Club’s bar got so slammed last time, they’ve decided to have THREE bars open this time, instead of just the one. No waiting!!!

RSVP and invite your friends!

Also, view this album of party pics from last time if you like viewing albums of party pics.

The silver lining behind Giant Value’s demise

Thanks, Josh!

The future is now

Our pal Lindsey saw Juicy J at last night’s Converse Represent show at Slim’s. Here’s what happened:

To enter, some Converse employees slapped a band with an RFID chip on my wrist, and automated posts were sent to my Twitter account when I walked through the door. The future is now. [link]

Whoa.

CONTEST: Win tickets to the Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival starring Thee Oh Sees and YACHT

I mean, there’re a lot of festivals in this town, and there’ve been a lot of unforgettable lineups over the years, but I don’t know that I’ve ever been as excited about anything as much as Phono del Sol‘s one-two punch of Thee Oh Sees and YACHT headlining a festival a few blocks from my house. And B. Hamilton too? C’mon.

Anyhow, who wants to win some tickets? To win, in the comments section below, answer me the following question: What is it about Thee Oh Sees? (They’re my faves, the only band I still really truly fully enjoy seeing live over and over and over, but they’re hard to put into words.) Contest ends one week from right now. Winner will be judged based on merit and awarded a pair of tickets.

(And if you can’t answer the question either and want to just buy tickets, just buy tickets.)
