Calling all rudeboys and rudegirls: Too Much Pressure at thee Parkside tonight

Well, hopefully my sharkskin suit still fits. Tonight at thee Parkside, Too Much Pressure, an all star 2-tone ska tribute band is gonna be playing skankable hits from the ’80s. What constitutes all-star? Well here are a few of the singers:

  • Mike Park – Skankin’ Pickle, Asian Man Records
  • Karina Denike – Dance Hall Crashers
  • Jesse Wagner – the Aggrolites

As well as a backing band made up of the awesome members of Let’s Go Bowling, the Phenomenauts, and Bad Manners. 3rd wave meets 2nd wave! The early 2000s rudie in you is completely stoked, just own it.

Here’s a shot Jesse took of rehearsal:

It’s a beautiful day in the Mission, but here’s driving across the Golden Gate Bridge

A new twist on Berlin-style ping pong

This week we’ve seen a new twist on bowling and a new twist on skeeball. Last night at NightLife at Cal Academy, we learned a new twist on Berlin-style ping pong:

As players get out, they leave their paddle randomly on the table. The number of paddles increases as the game goes on, creating more and more obstacles for the players that remain. We were playing with only about 10 people, which was fun, but imagine the challenge of a 25- or 30-person game!

Perhaps we’ll try it tonight in the Lower Haight at the only American Tripps party in August!

Does the carpet match the… shoes?

Yep!

Brunch is not boys’ night

Yesterday on Tumblr I shamed my friend Wesley for flaking on a hang, using this list of recent boys’ nights:

  1. North Beach w/ Chris and Luke
  2. Diarrhea Planet w/ Colin and Nick
  3. Mission Hill Saloon w/ Simon and Marky
  4. Improv show (7pm), karaoke (9pm), or Mission Hill Saloon (11pm) w/ Wesley Oh wait, Wesley bailed on all three things, one at a time

Wesley responded thusly, via an intermediary:

Brunch is not boys’ night, Wesley. (But brunch was fun, you’re right.) (We had that bomb $5 toast!)

The thousand-yard ‘about to drink a Latin American Club margarita’ stare

Yep, that’s what it looks like:

Thieves stole 20 iPads and numerous teachers’ wallets from local school

A friend who works at Glen Park Elementary, the school, sent in this information. This security camera image is a clue.
