Help chef Anthony Myint open a radical new restaurant

Anthony’s done tons for the Mission. From those wild-west early days at Mission Street Food, to the worldwide phenomenon that is Mission Chinese Food, and of course the advent of the Mission Burger — he’s been there for all of it. (And all of his projects are constantly raising money for local charities.)

Now’s a chance to give back. He’s opening a new restaurant called the Perennial in the Mid-Market area, with an aim toward completely reinventing the way restaurants source their stuff and expend energy. It’s gonna be greener than green. It could change the world, solve climate change. But they need a little help getting started:

For donating to the Kickstarter, you’ll receive great rewards like CSA boxes, the Mission Street Food book, or even private dinners at the Perennial once it’s open.

Hurtling through space at Elbo Room

As plans to replace Elbo Room with a condo complex continue to develop, I just wanna celebrate Elbo Room.

Please enjoy this mesmerizing scene from one of the video-game tabletops at Elbo Room, one of the best places in the Mission to play video games and pinball:

I guess Savanna Jazz Club is still open, and there’s a comedy show there tonight

I’ve been meaning to check this place out for, let’s see… 100 years or so.

Wild parrots just chillin’ on your windowsill

I thought I was lucky to have them chillin’ high up in a tree in my backyard, but this? Wowee.

13 reasons why our pal Daisy hates Dolores Park

I love Daisy. Her latest for Thrillist is “Why I Hate Something You Probably Love: Dolores Park” and I don’t hate it. Here’s the beginning:

If you ask almost any San Franciscan where they like to hang out on sunny days, they’ll give you the same answer: Dolores Park. Something about the good weather and the people and the close proximity to the three-hour wait for Bi-Rite ice cream. They just cannot get enough of Dolores Park. And by “they”, I mean “you”. YOU LOVE IT.

And hey, good on you. I’m all for people loving what they love. But in this case, I just don’t get it — at all. Dolores Park actually totally sucks. Like, I would rather be burned by one of the fire-swirling hula hoopers than have to hang out there for an afternoon. Before you judge, read my 13 reasons why.

Read on for the 13 reasons.

The best Halloween costumes from previous American Tripps Halloween parties

We’ve been doing these American Tripps parties for a few years now, and the Halloween ones are always among the very best. The costumes and all, y’know? So, I’m gonna do a bunch of posts this week ramping up to the next one (this Friday).

Here are a bunch of my favorite costumes from over the years…

#1 has to be Kreayshawn and the Yip Yips at the Secret Alley, 2011:

Oh man, how about everybody from Bob’s Burgers doing karaoke with DJ Purple on a boat in the middle of the bay, 2013:

This next one’s from Australia Day, not Halloween, but I thought hairy-armed Lorde might be a newly relevant last-minute idea for this year:

Another all-time fave, all the parents from Rugrats onstage for the costume contest at Rickshaw Stop, 2013:

I loved this gender-bending Miley and Robyn (with Iron Man) also on a boat in the middle of the bay, 2013:

And of course… Mission Mission boyz Andrew Sarkarati and Vic Wong as Nic Cage and Uma Thurman at the Secret Alley, 2013:

The next American Tripps Halloween party is this Friday (aka Halloween) at Verdi Club (aka an awesome place for a party) with DJ Purple doing his patented Dance Karaoke thing. Here’s the poster:
