Merry Pizzmas!

In other pizza news, Personal and the Pizzas threatened to kill and then sue Macaulay Culkin and his ridiculous Velvet Underground cover band, Pizza Underground.

Merry Pizzmas!

Feral hawk rules the wild animal park that is 14th and Folsom [NSFV]

As anyone who has seen this happen at some point during their daily travels through the city (or past the Metreon) can attest, it never gets any less rad, as photographer Brandon vividly describes:

The pigeon was still alive while the hawk was eating it!

Indeed.  So, Pigeon, think about that while you sit on the stoop right outside my bedroom window that doesn’t open, endlessly cooing and cooing as you go about setting up your pigeon nest.

This hawk is coming for YOU!

Ps. Don’t worry, Knockout! I still love you! I just wish you had a patio, too!

Holiday Girlfriend needs a job!

Remember when Holiday Boyfriend captivated your hearts a couple winters ago?  Well, it seems as though holiday boyfriend and girlfriend eventually became regular boyfriend and girlfriend, and now they’re back again, just in time for this holiday season!

WANTED: A JOB FOR MY HOLIDAY GIRLFRIEND (mission district)

Let me be clear. I want a job. But, I don’t really want a job.

I just want one for my holiday girlfriend.

Let’s recognize something. Getting laid off sucks, especially after you moved from Florida to California two years ago to work for a non-profit that does fantastic humanitarian projects that you truly believe in, and most especially after you welded together an entire conference (Exhibit A: http://architectureforhumanity.org/dlygadlive13) basically by yourself to help further fund previously mentioned organization/sinking ship. Then after getting complimented on how it was “the best one we’ve had yet” you were unceremoniously shitcanned.

Let’s recognize another thing. She’s awesome at community and communications management, great at fundraising with high level folks, has a solid understanding of operational flow (SalesForce and website handshaking etc), kicks ass at social media, event planning, plenty of other stuff and is tall and pretty.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from accredited universities. She has worked in the service industry and AmeriCorps so she has a solid-as-fuck work ethic — she is not some softie who calls in “sick” because of bad weather or a hangover.

She’s also pretty OVER nonprofits at this point.

Interested? Here’s…

How it works if:
• You’re a JOB CREATOR: reply to this email with a description of said job. MUST be in San Francisco or the immediate Bay Area unless it is especially sweet (and we’re talking a Gigantic Cotton Candy™ smothered in local honey and gestating a mid-six figure salary kind of saccharine here)
• You’re a PERSON WHO KNOWS PEOPLE: reply to this email with the best form of contact for a person who is a JOB CREATOR.

Thank you all in advance.

(And yes, this is the original “holiday girlfriend guy.” Accept no substitutions.)

A simple, streamlined bicycle map of SF

Even though the SF bike coalition has put a ton of painstaking work into creating a thoroughly-detailed bicycle map of the city, it can appear pretty daunting to anyone glancing at it while trying to plan a riding route, and just plain overwhelming to newbie riders looking to adopt cycling as their primary means of transportation.  Fortunately, longtime cyclist Mat Kladney noticed this and decided to create a map that makes bicycling from one end of the city to the other look as simple as following a straight line:

“Need to get from Downtown to the Bernal Heights? Just follow the Blue Line,” he says. “This simplicity will re-frame the existing San Francisco bicycle lanes as the San Francisco Bicycle System and will help convince more people to saddle up and take to the streets.”

Instead of contoured lines denoting hill grade or the inclusion of every single city street, the map ends up looking like a subway system map, with popular routes like Valencia’s “Green Wave” called out.  So, the next time you’re trying to figure out the perfect route to that bike picnic at Baker Beach, just pick a color or two a ride!

Trick or treat on Valencia Street from a third floor window

What do you do when you want to hand out tasty Halloween treats but don’t have a front porch?  Simple, just lower a giant orange arm with a basket of goodies to passerby below!

Those Photojojo folks are pretty clever.

Halloween continues this Friday with Still Flyin’ performing as New Order for American Tripps at the Rickshaw Stop

So I know that today is October 31st and all, but let’s be honest; this whole week is Halloween.  It started last weekend and doesn’t let up for a minute this weekend, as you’ll see when one of San Francisco’s best bands dons their New Order costumes and hits the stage while ping-pongers dance around in circles.

When I first heard about this show, I thought, “Wow, one of my favorite local bands is performing as one of my favorite all-time bands at one of my favorite venues during one of my favorite activities.  This night must have been made for me!”  And that’s before I heard that Nick Pal’s new band is also making their debut:

This is the official American Tripps Halloween/Dia de los Muertos party! We’ll have Berlin-style ping pong on the main dance floor for most of the night, and DJ Beauregard on the decks most of the night, but we also decided to book some additional entertainment this time. And it is gonna be epic:

Still Flyin’ performing as NEW ORDER
→ Honeymoon in Canada (debut show), the new group featuring Chex Otakan (SF karaoke legend) and Nick Pal (The Kablamies, Readyville)

Plus we’ll have skeeball (courtesy of Joey the Cat) and foosball and mini-ping-pong up in the mezzanine, drink specials, and a COSTUME CONTEST.

So yeah, I guess I’ll see you there tomorrow!  Check out all the details here.
