The most expensive cab ride ever

Our pal Carlos noticed something quite peculiar the other day:

An NYC cab spotted on Camp and Albion streets this morning.

Must have been a pretty pricey ride!  Perhaps they should have taken Uber?

King Tuff is headlining this year’s Phono del Sol party in Potrero del Sol this weekend

The first time I heard King Tuff I was absolutely floored. It was this song, posted by somebody on Tumblr. The graphic looked cool so I pressed play, and then it was 1 minute of mellow acoustic guitar and this intriguing voice, and then the handclaps start, and then at 1:21 the rest of the band kicks in, and they’re exhorting you to “Baby, just break the rules” and it RULES and good lord rock ‘n’ roll was changed forever:

They’re playing this Saturday afternoon, in a public park bandshell, in the Mission, at the annual Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival. Get your tickets quick.

Here’s the rest of the lineup:

Watch “Moebius Strip Tease,” Doc Pop’s new Gameboy-themed music video

And if ya dig that, go see Doc perform live tonight at DNA Lounge!

Throwback Thursday: Menu from Mission Stoned Food, a precursor to Mission Chinese Food

The Knockout is turning 10-years-old and celebrating with a weekendlong party!!!

Can’t believe it’s been 10 years already! Seems like only yesterday everybody was like, “What’s the deal with this brand-new bar having ALL THE BEST BANDS AND DJs ALL THE TIME and isn’t their ‘NOPE’ sign funny???”

Seems like only yesterday Jay Reatard (RIP) was playing a 10-minute (amazing) set there. Back when the stage was next to the bar.

Seems like only yesterday we were there for an Oldies Night, laying eyes on Primo for the first time, all that energy behind the decks, and we were like, “ALL DJs SHOULD BE LIKE THIS.”

Seems like only yesterday we were there for a Debaser around Christmastime seeing their Weezer cover band and we were like, “THIS IS WAAAY BETTER THAN ACTUALLY SEEING WEEZER!”

Seems like only yesterday we finally got to see the Dukes of Hamburg for the first time, at a Teenage Dance Craze party on New Year’s Eve.

Seems like only yesterday we saw Stokemonster’s big smile for the first time, greeting us crazy-warmly on our way in.

Seems like only yesterday we were singing “I got soul but I’m not a soldier!!!!!!!!” at karaoke there on a Monday night.

Seems like only yesterday we got ejected from a Debaser for stage diving (when Jamie Jams put on “Holland, 1945″ of course).

Seems like only yesterday Beth was on the door that night.

…………We could go on and on but instead let’s just watch some of one of Jay Reatard’s performances there, and then we’ll talk some more:

Oh and let’s quick enjoy this photo of Primo straight phase-shifting into another dimension that our pal Lizzy took back in ’11:

And here’s a heap of Knockout-related posts from over the years:

Weird Fish is now Urban Fish

Capp Street Crap reports:

Well, this is fishier than expected. Despite plans to reopen it as a French bistro called Bistro Le Bon Vivre by summer, Dante’s Weird Fish looks to have been renamed “Urban Fish.”

Recently, a new wooden sign went up. The Urban Fish menu posted outside looks to be full of vegan and pescatarian items, including some old Weird Fish dishes and new offerings like fish sandwiches and mussels and fries.

Read on for more info and pics.

Monday night Berlin-style ping pong league kicks off new season next week in the Mission

I think this animation (from an American Tripps party a couple years ago at Z Space) says it all:

Every Monday for 6 weeks, right here in the Mission. Sign up!

Reasons to love Cafe St. Jorge

1. Their coffee is great!
2. Their food is delicious! (I think about their sardine + fava bean crostini at least once a week)
3. They have excellent taste in men! (see stickers above)
4. Andrea, Cafe St. Jorge’s owner, is the sweetest person!
5. They’re right around the corner from your house (if you happen to be me or my neighbor)
6. They’re giving away FREE COFFEE all day today, to celebrate their 2-year anniversary!

Happy birthday, Cafe St. Jorge. I love you so.

Drink of the Week: Spaghetti

Hey what kind of beans are those?
