Mac and Cheese in the Streets

Check out this Mission sidewalk graffiti, courtesy of Don’t Ask Me, I Just Work Here:

I JUST ATE SOME OF THIS SHIT FOR LUNCH!!!!!

So anyway, The Wall Street Journal says hipsters in New York and California love mac and cheese.   No big deal, but Safewaygirl totally called it like two days before that article even came out.

Where’s the best m & c in town?  I would say Maverick, but I talk about Maverick too much.

Food For Thought THIS Wednesday

Hey gang – a brief reminder/update on the Food For Thought event I posted about last week, in case you’re interested…

The event is this coming Wednesday, November 11th.  All you gotta do is eat at one of many participating restaurants that night and BAM! Mission Graduates gets a chunk of skrill and Mission kiddies benefit.

I’m a sucker for babies, food, and babies dressed as food.  Here’s the updated list of participating establishments:

Andalu, Bar Bambino, Bissap Baobab, CODA, Conduit, Destino, Dolores Park Cafe, Farina Focaccia and Cucina Italiana, Foreign Cinema, Front Porch, La Provence, Little Baobab, Little Star Valencia, Maverick, Mission Beach Cafe, Panchitas #2, Pisco, Ramblas Tapas, Range, Regalito Rosticeria, Slow Club, Specchio, Spork, Sun Rise Restaurant, Usulutan Restaurant.

Anarchy in the B of A

Anarchy has  a cool logo, I guess, but I prefer Obama’s Gotham typeface.  Less messy.

Thanks to Rachel for sending.  Photo & title from jerkhaircut on Flickr.

Car Crash on Mission

carcrash

Ack!  Bit of a SMASH! around 6:30 this morning on 23rd and Mission.  Glass everywhere!

Zoinks! The Case of the Stolen Six-String!

Conrad sends in a link to a post on Djangology.net.  It seems Gaucho guitarist Dave Ricketts’ axe was stolen from Amnesia the night of September 30th.

Gumshoe that I am, I took to the case immediately by contacting my awesome friend Vic (LADIES: HE’S SINGLE!), who often sits in with the gypsy jazz band.  He sent in the above image, and the following:

It’s a dell arte “minor swing” model guitar. Note the pick wear right below the strings by the bridge and the Gaucho sticker on the cutaway. These sorts of guitars are pretty distinctive so it should be easy to spot if it pops up somewhere.

More details: it was stolen out of the back room at amnesia sometime after Gaucho finished their set at 10pm at Sep 30. It was in a blue Alpine brand gig bag.

Thanks Kat… some might call you a hero…

Oh, whoops, totally didn’t mean to include that last sentence.

Send any clues this way!  Rumor has it Dave Ricketts has found a suitable replacement, but I’m sure he’d appreciate getting his old guit-box back.

Related: if you ever have  a chance to make it to Amnesia Wednesday for gyspy jazz night, prepare to shit your pants over its novelty.  A scene like no other.  Whew.  I recommend it.

I Smell Drugs and Candy… Here… Mhmmm…

Heh!  Sorry ’bout that title.

Dana sends in these shots, probs leftovers from somebody’s Halloween bender:

Look at this crazy little pile of empty Rx bottles (including Oxycontin) and candy wrappers on 18th street between mission and capp

Oxycontin and Twix!  It’s robotrippin’ for adults.

A Vote for David Stockhausen is a Vote for Hot

What the eff, people?  Amyitis Gardens founder David Stockhausen is still just at #2 on The Huffington Post’s Hot Farmer contest, not #1 as per my request.  Would it kill you to vote for change?  It is Election Day, after all.

No idea when this contest ends, btw.  We might be here a while.

Food For Thought: Dine Out Wednesday(s)!

Hey, this sounds pretty nice:

If you like eating out for charity, consider participating in next week’s Food for Thought event, in which 23 Mission District restaurants donate their profits for the night of Wednesday, Nov. 4, to Mission Graduates. All you have to do is make a reservation at one of the eateries listed below, then dine out like you normally would on a Wednesdaty. Restaurants will donate 25 to 100 percent of their revenue to the non-profit that helps Mission District kids go to college.

From Grub Street.  The Food For Thought section of the Mission Graduates website says the event is November 11th rather than the 4th, so you’ll have to dine out both nights to be safe.

Participating restaurants are: Andalu, Bar Bambino, Bissap Baobab, CODA, Conduit, Destino, Dolores Park Cafe, Farina Focaccia and Cucina Italiana, Foreign Cinema, Front Porch, La Provence, Little Star Valencia, Maverick, Panchitas #2, Pisco, Range, Regalito Rosticeria, Slow Club, Specchio, Spork, Usulutan Restaurant.

I was tickled pink to realize I had already made a reservation at one of the above restaurants for both Wednesday nights, by sheer coincidence.  Accidentally philanthropic?  YOU’RE WELCOME!
