berlin’, my favorite blog about Berlin, took a turn around a suburban supermarket and found a number of trippy things, chief among them this jar o’ hot dogs:

The folks at Meica have expropriated a classic American rite of passage: the one in which boys wrench open their first jar of hot dog, devour the contents and chug the brine.

The other night I was on Taylor Street in some other neighborhood and I saw a tree growing in the sewer. I need to visit other neighborhoods more often.

When our pal Sangroncito isn’t taking beautiful pictures of the Mission, he’s probably taking beautiful pictures of Brazil. In this case, a gorgeous aerial look at Recife. I mean, we’ve all seen gorgeous aerial shots of Rio and São Paulo a jillion times, but who the hell had any idea what Recife looked like?

Well, it looks quite nice!

I drove through McLaren Park once before, several years back, and concluded it seemed like a pretty great place to get shot or stabbed or raped. On Saturday, I went back for the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival‘s all-day free concert at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, and it was all very pleasant. Right off the bat a skunk crossed my path, so I felt like I was really getting back to nature.

Also, Jerry Garcia Amphitheater! Who knew there was an amphitheater in there!? And it’s a pretty nice amphitheater with lots of seating and a big grassy hill! Kudos to the festival’s organizers for finding this spot and recognizing that it would be an ideal location for a day-long showcase of local and touring musicians. Here’s hoping more festival organizers recognize this in the future.

Rubies were pretty good.

Kelley Stoltz is kind of starting to look like Elvis Costello.

The festival continues through July 25th at various venues in San Francisco.

According to multiple witnesses on the scene, a male in the white SUV (pictured below) was speeding away from an accident at Capp and 25th when he slammed into 4 vehicles at 23rd.  Allegedly, after he crashed into the first vehicle, he proceeded to back his truck up and speed off going north on Capp.  After hitting a green light at 24th, he spotted a police cruiser and opted to blow through the intersection at 23rd St (in an attempt to evade the officer?).  The red SUV, attempting to avoid him, hit the side of his vehicle and then slammed into a telephone pole.  This caused the white SUV to lose control and go right into a parked BMW sedan, resulting in the SUV flipping through the air and landing on front of the hood of another parked sedan.
