Skateboarding in Dolores Park

Dolores Park was truly in fine form this Sunday evening.  As Allan already mentioned, this gang of pendejos sent out for five cases of PBR reinforcements at 6pm.  When they decided to start skateboarding down the hill, it was obvious that we were about to witness the premiere of Destination: Awesome.

I know absolutely nothing about making videos, never mind skateboarding videos.  That said, I hope you love the phat beats I put to the clips of people being awesome.

(youtubes Daily Motion (youtube was hating on my music.  Lame.))

I Cannot Wait For the Chili Bowl

I hope to watch more people get decked like the guy at 2:40.

Also, see how many “whoas” from the sidelines you can count.

Ping Pong Happy Hour Tonight!

HappyHour_Jetts

Once again it’s time for my favorite quarterly activity, Ping Pong Happy Hour at Ping Pong Gallery! Ping pong, music and FREE TRUMER PILS as usual. Starts right at 5:00, ends at 8:00.

Tonight, we say goodbye to the Jetts (pictured), a ping pong duo beloved by all at the gallery, who are apparently moving on to bigger and better things.

BREAKING: New Bowling Alley Coming to the Mission?

bowling with handgunsEater SF has come forward with a rumor that there are plans in the works for a small bowling alley in the Mission.  They did not unveil where the planned bowling alley would be so who knows if this is even remotely true.  That said, if a bowling alley does come to the Mission, it would be earth-shatteringly awesome:

Keep in mind that this is some good ol’ fashioned unconfirmed rumormongering at its very finest, but it would appear that a new bowling alley could be en route for the Mission. It would be on the small side (only six lanes or so) and a group is currently trying to get all the paperwork together. The biggest obstacle to be overcome is the ABC and the maze that is liquor licensing, which is tricky for places like bowling alleys. Add in the current ABC crackdown surrounding clubs and the requirements for food sales, and things get even more dicey.

Though it’s definitely still only in the planning stage—albeit far enough along that the ABC is a hurdle—a potential bowling alley could be something to keep an eye on. Plus, it goes without saying that with a bowling alley in the Mission would be a gold mine. That is, if it gets through the red tape. (link)

More importantly, Burrito Justice has discovered that there was a bowling alley way back in 1915 next to some places that played “moving pictures.”

Things San Franciscans Like

ScreenHunter_04 Jul. 20 10.13

If you’re not reading the SF Appeal, you’re missing out on a lot of good things. Chief among them might be a column called “Things San Franciscans Like,” in which fun is poked at us locals and our foibles. Archives are here.

This week’s is called Things San Franciscans Like: Making the Light

No pedestrians in the universe hate to wait at crosswalks more than pedestrians in San Francisco do. This dislike is so complete that if San Francisco were its own country, as 79% of the U.S. population almost certainly wishes it were, the national pastime would probably be something called “making the light.”

Right? Making the light is awesome!

Dolores Park Street Fight

From reader Amy Y.:

[O]n Sunday afternoon I witnessed this guy getting the crap beaten out of him in Dolores Park. I am still a little disturbed about it, although the ass kicking was totally justified.

Anyway, the park was pretty packed given that it was sunny and all and I started to notice this guy sitting next to a group of women near the restrooms. He seemed really out of place, like he didn’t belong with their group and they didn’t want him around but were doing their best to ignore him. At point the guy, we’re guessing meth addict, had his pants down and was trying to show them these nasty tattoos on his legs.

Before long, there was a commotion. I learned later that he’d stolen someone in that group’s shoes. When one of the women went to confront him, he either slapped or punched her in the face. Seeing this, a guy sitting nearby jumps up and proceeds to kick the crap out of him, quite impressively I might say, Jean Claude Van Damme style. (I’m guessing he had some sort of martial arts training).

The guy who hit the woman was losing from the get go, though at one point he pulled off his belt to try to use it to fight. Roughly about then, a friend of his was able to convince him to leave the park before the cops arrived.

Oh and in the midst of getting pummeled and kicked, the guy tried to steal yet another pair of shoes belonging to someone in my group.
