Mission Bowling Club (and Mission Burger) will hopefully be located at 17th and South Van Ness

First we heard about the concept and saw Mission Bowling Club’s floorplan, then we heard the epic news that Chef Anthony from Mission Street Food and Mission Burger will be doing the food. Today, the Examiner revealed the forthcoming establishment’s proposed location, 17th and South Van Ness.

Moreover, a couple of our Supervisors are giving the project a push:

Bowling and boozing — two inherently related activities — are the subject of city legislation designed to clear the way for a proposed new six-lane alley and bar-restaurant in the Mission district.

Supervisors Jane Kim and Scott Wiener want to tweak the planning code to make way for the new locally owned business, which wouldn’t otherwise be allowed because past problems with the area’s drinking culture prompted restrictions on new liquor licenses.

Read on. Hmm. I wonder what other killer concepts might emerge in the wake of these tweaks…

BARTboarding blooper

Reader Marcus just got in touch via a comment on our Contact us page to recommend a video he shot over the weekend. Here’s how it all started:

‎Hey Terresina, you should totally just like, stand on your skateboard and when the train stops, you’ll like, go forward.

Was it a solid hypothesis? See for yourself:

Buster Posey, Dreamcatcher

Our pal Nick hipped us to this mystical Buster Posey Dreamcatcher shirt (get it?) he recently designed shortly before Buster’s last game (if you believe the docs) this season.  In case you haven’t heard, San Francisco’s favorite Rookie of the Year went down last night with what looks to be a season-ending injury.  Fortunately, this clever pun can now be worn as a get-well-soon homage by all of his concerned fans.

Nick’s offering them for just $20, so to get a jump on the next big fashion trend, get in touch with him over at creamydesignsllc@gmail.com.

Pablo Sandoval apparently ate at El Farolito last night and all I got was this crappy picture. Sorry, folks. I’m no good as a paparazzi.

I was in line by myself and the three guys in front of me started freaking out after he walked out. “Dude! That was Pablo Sandoval!” That kind of thing. I need to pay more attention.

Lawn boarding

I’ve been staring at this picture all morning. It’s like a whole Michel Gondry movie packed into one little cellphone shot.

How’s that Giants game?

Bummer!

P.S. I’m pretty sure that’s a riff on an MLK quote.

They’re closing the park

Not that park you’re thinking of if you just glanced at the title, but nonetheless another important location in the neighborhood that Mission residents of many diverse cultures and proclivities all utilize cooperatively. I’m talking about Mission Playground, which is slated to close for renovation starting Monday May 9th and continuing well through 2012.

As it is, Mission Playground caters to the Latin American community by hosting epic soccer matches nightly, provides recreational activity for restless toddlers and a spot where couples actually trying to raise a kid instead of a dog can reliably go, and offers both basketball and tennis fanatics courts on which to get their game, among many others.

I’ll definitely miss the place, but hopefully it can come back from surgery better, faster, and stronger.  I wonder if the pool will stay open? At least we’ll still have the sunsets!
