Bouldering competition at Mission Cliffs tonight, and good news regarding renovations

The 7th Touchstone Bouldering Series arrives at Mission Cliffs tonight from 5-11pm (as in, it just started!) Participation gets you free pizza, free beer, and a free T-shirt (pictured above).

Also, this just in from the Mission Cliffs Facebook page:

Attention Mission Cliffs, members and gusts: As you may have heard, we are pleased, proud, and absolutely pumped to announce that after a year and a half of hang ups, we have the building permits for a massive addition to our gym. Just imagine: Two levels of bouldering. Increased square footage for fitness. Adjustable Cracks. Separate Cycling Room. More Locker Space. New Front Entrance. And so much more.

Adjustable cracks! Great news, Mission Cliffs!

Help the Mission Bowling Club become a reality

If you’re excited about having a bowling alley (whose kitchen serves the beloved Mission Burger) here in the neighborhood, you just might wanna show your support by contributing some some cash to their fundraiser. Depending on your pledge amount, you’ll be rewarded with thank yous, drink tickets, opening night party passes, hours of free bowling, sneak preview access — and for $2,000 you can even contribute your own signature cocktail to the bar’s cocktail menu. Check it out.

Un-ironic skate dance party this Tuesday

DocPop just scored some rollerblades. Remember those? Well does the hit SEGA game Skitchin’ jog your memory? Thought so. Anyway, that means he’s heading to Cellspace’s skate night this Tuesday. Maybe you should too, if you’ve got a pair and you’re into synchronized dancing:

Back when I was growing up in Modesto, CA, our yearly reward for being above a 2.0 GPA was a trip to Roller King. I can still remember the bruises from repeatedly falling on my locker keys, but rolling around in a big circle to Ray Parker Jr.’s Ghostbusters and couple skating with Gabrielle made it totally worth it. Skating is fun.

Before you go and grab a head band and a pair of neon leg warmers, be aware that this party is un-ironic. I would tell you what that means, but I’m not even convinced I know what “ironic” means anymore.

Mission Mission Gift Guide: Custom-painted skateboard decks by Jihaari Terry

Post-Thanksgiving Berlin-style ping pong party this Saturday featuring Breezy Nix

It’s this coming Saturday, which gives you two whole days to digest. Some other key things to remember:

  • Breezy Nix is our special guest DJ, in town just for the weekend. She will undoubtedly bring the house down, so bring your dancin’ shoes.
  • This is our first party with an absolutely first-rate DJ booth and soundsystem, so bring your dancin’ shoes.
  • This party goes ’til 2AM.
  • $2 beer until midnight.

RSVP and invite your friends!

Plus, be sure to check out (and bookmark) the newly launched AMERICANTRIPPS.COM.

Note also that this is our first time throwing this party at Project One, which is located just a teeny bit outside the Mission. It’s still easy to get to though, via the 22-Fillmore or something, or your bike or feet:

[Map by Bing Maps because I can't get any Google products to load here at DIA.]

*Disclaimer: Mission Mission and American Tripps are sister operations, as they were both my idea. Thanks, all, for your continued interest in both.

Extreme freestyle downhill office chair racing

This man is a professional. Do not try this anywhere. But do watch the whole thing:

Who needs a soccer ball when you can just get your game on with an empty wine bottle?

Erica explains:

This guy just rainbowed an empty wine bottle into a trash can. I want to buy him a soccer ball.

The art of falling down the stairs backwards in your chair at Bender’s

There’s that perch at Bender’s where if you’re sitting in a chair facing the wall, behind you are a couple of steps down to the main floor — meaning if you scoot backward, you will fall backward. Caryn did just that last night, but like a champ she popped right back up, unscathed.

A Bender’s employee came over and applauded her aplomb, and said that Caryn was the first person in five years to take that tumble. But I’m not sure I buy it. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen others do it too, but I never really trust my memory when it comes to Whiskey Wednesday.

In this pic you can see the leg of Caryn’s chair pointing ceilingward, and Caryn’s head (I think) upright like it weren’t no thang:

Celebrate 11-11-11 with Berlin-style ping pong and DJ Wesley Frazee

Sorry about the constant posting about ping pong parties, but ping pong parties are THE BEST. And it’s especially hard not to post when their flyers contain such things as epic photography by Corntard and the news that this week’s guest DJ is the one and only Wesley Frazee!

Plus, this Friday is 11-11-11, and American Tripps promises (as you can see) a “special surprise at 11:11.” Can’t wait!

RSVP and invite your friends!

Also, pictures from last week’s epic block party are up on Facebook. And it’s a notable photo album because this was the first time the event took place at venues other than the Secret Alley. Here are a shot of the party and a shot of the after party:

View the whole album here. (Tag yourself, tag your friends!)

Mission-style street food at Berlin-style ping pong block party TONIGHT

Up top is a pile of pineapple-grilled onions, the kind you’ll find at Eagle Dogs. Below that is a frybread taco by Rocky Yazzie. Both vendors will be on the scene at the American Tripps Berlin-Style Ping Pong Block Party tonight at Z Space and Coffee bar (on Florida Street between 17th and Mariposa).

There will also be some classic Berlin cinema on the big screen, and lots of fresh new paddles to break in. And remember the party goes real late. (And pretty much all of the action takes place indoors, except for the beer garden.)

RSVP and invite your friends!
