American Tripps brings Berlin-style ping pong to Rickshaw Stop this Friday!

American Tripps breaks it down:

We at American Tripps are thrilled to be throwing our first full-blown Berlin-style ping pong party at a full-blown San Francisco rock ‘n’ roll club. Rickshaw Stop rules!

There’s a full bar and tons of space. We’ll have two ping pong tables, as well as foosball and skeeball, and epic views of all the action from the mezzanine level — and Rickshaw Stop’s rickshaws.

DJ PJ will provide the music.

Can’t wait! RSVP and invite your friends!

Oh and here’s an animated GIF illustrating exactly how awesome it will be, courtesy of our pal Jess:

Mission Bowling Club in action for the very first time!

Our BFF Jess Kelso went bowling at a Mission Bowling Club preview party last night, and took a bunch of beautiful photos and told us all about it:

Apparently they rolled the scissor lift out 5 minutes before we arrived, but you never would have known it — the space looked amazing. As well as being responsible for a lot of the decor inside (including the curtains and the bowling stripes along the wall), Sommer’s mum has also created a beautiful garden wall in the space out the front of the alley. The outdoor space was still a bit bare but there are tables, chairs and bike racks on the way.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented, I especially liked the Home Fries on a Stick (literally served on a stick poking out of a piece of wood that was once part of a bowling lane) and the Buttermilk Pannacotta, served in a vintage teacup.

You seriously have to try the house cocktail, “TBD,” a blend of mescal and jalapeno jam. I’ve never tasted anything like it (it made my nose itchy), and it will be named after the first person to score a perfect 300. Challenge accepted! Although since I only scored 58 I think I have a long way to go…

You can do it, Jess! Now let’s look at more pictures:

Lots more pictures (of the food, the drink, the dining room, the garden and more) after the jump:

Mission Bowling Club opening Monday

Dust off those Big Lebowski quotes and those shoes you snagged from Albany Bowl, Mission Bowling Club is opening next Monday, March 17. For the first week, hours will be 6-11pm. It’s located at 3176 17th Street between Shotwell and South Van Ness.

Here’s a draft of the Anthony Myint-curated menu. Glad to see it contains such bowling alley classics as Blackened Catfish and Bucatini:

And here’s a making-of video to tide you over for the next few days:

Berlin-style ping pong with punk, post-punk and new wave soundtrack tonight at Project One

Surely you’ll remember Evey from those post-punk nights at Make-Out Room we mentioned last summer. Here’s what she says she’ll be spinning tonight:

Mostly late seventies to mid eighties punk, post punk, new wave, dark wave, synth.

Sounds very Berlin! Can’t wait! RSVP and invite your friends!

Rollerblade to work day

Whenever debate about the city’s complicated transportation infrastructure dilemma occurs, the discussion is always dominated by the major interest lobbyists (cyclists, motorists, pedestrians).

But who will speak for the rollerbladers???
