Lil birds

Local photographer marmotilla snapped this pic. Here’s the story:

I was walking down Valencia Street when I saw a little bird on the ground. Apparently he had fallen out his nest. I asked a man to go get a ladder so I could put the baby bird back. When I climbed the tree I found these guys asking for food like crazy. I don’t know if the tiny one survived. I hope he did. [link]

Here comes the rain

As much as I hate to rain on your parade, it looks like the atmosphere is doing that for us anyway. Guess it’s time to dust off those umbrellas and rain boots. Winter is coming.

Also, what happens to baseball when it rains?

Dolores Park palm tree chopped down by vandals last night

Late last night, some monocot-hater(s) sliced through the trunk of one of the palm trees near 20th and Church. Shortly after being discovered this morning, the damaged tree was deemed an immediate hazard and was taken down at around 2pm.

It almost looks as though the intention was to have the tree fall onto the tracks, as if the J-Church needs any more delays.

I can say from, err, personal field research, that the cops cleared everyone out of the park playground at midnight, so this probably happened after that unless these guys were super-quiet about it.

It is 94 degrees in the Mission right now

I knew I felt like shit, but I thought it was just the hangover. Holy mackerel.

Bubble buds

Trippy, right? What the heck are these?

Really really wild-looking wild mushrooms in the Mission

Maybe I should eat one before the Hot Chip show tonight?

Double rainbow overload!

Yesterday evening San Francisco had an epic rainbow. We posted a few pictures that were submitted to us by readers, but I figured we’d better also share the wealth of trippy pics that’ve been popping up in our various feeds ever since. There’ve been a ton though, so you’re gonna have to do some of the work yourself. Pick a name you like, and see that name’s pic (or pics) — or click through to each and every one for a DOUBLE RAINBOW OVERLOAD:

Tidal wave of fog

You see it every day, but it never ceases to amaze. (Unless you’re dead inside or something I guess.)

Mission Vegan: The detoxic avenger

Photo credit: The Detox Market Facebook page

I’ve been meaning to go into the Detox Market since they opened between 21st and 20th on Valencia. Our friends at Vegansaurus said nice things about them and they have some lovely window displays advertising vegan products. But let me be honest here: the word “detox” grosses me out. It makes me think of those embarrassing friends of friends (we all have them) who go on a weekend drinking and taco binge and show up to Sunday brunch only to order a side of fruit and proclaim that they’re “detoxing.” Fuck that. I hate that! They’ll spend that whole day eating fruit and drinking some sort of filtered lemon water and cayenne concoction talking about how it does “wonders” to their “system.” It is gross, but I digress.
