Extra-terrestrial found on Mission driveway, promptly covered-up

The truth is out there. Or was out there. On someone’s driveway. Flickr’r Sangroncito reports:

I walked out of my front door and found this extraterrestrial lying in my next door neighbor’s driveway. When I returned an hour later he was gone.

Has anyone seen any weather balloons lately?

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Courage and Unabashed Humility

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Oh, also, Joshua’s band Big Drag is playing tonight at Hemlock! Anyway, here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

A couple of these photographs took a lot of courage & unabashed humility from the subjects.I am not really confident about expressing my private life anymore. These are friends and people I love. No more, no less.

Thanks, Joshua! Ten more shots after the jump:

The Mission: Putting the temporary in contemporary

From 1954 to 1974 Lakeside Liquors was a little mom and pop shop at 2188 Mission Street. Local photographer Dave Glass/Dizzy Atmosphere grew up with the store as his actual mom and pop’s shop. He recently shared a shot of the exterior and surrounding Mission Street apparently taken in 1984.

Dave’s got a ton of other great Mission photos on his Flickr page.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Where I’ve Been, What I’ve Seen and Who’s Been Around Me

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

After the next issue of Bad Blood, I’ll be incorporating staged photos, prisms, archaic process & psychedelic influences into this column. Up to this point the photographs have served as my personal journal, where I’ve been, what I’ve seen & who’s been around me. These 13 continue my exploration of street photography with inspiration from fashion photography & what I’ve learned from being a journalist. Locations involve a birthday party in Nob Hill, a Haight Street performer’s “loot”, returning a uhaul with my recently reinstated drivers license, a work party at Zynga, the antique fair in Alameda (thank you Katy) & Virginia Plain’s staircase after dinner.

Thanks, Joshua! Ten more shots after the jump:

Now here’s a set of pipes you can bring to the park without worrying about cops.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Trouble with the Law

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

That first one and tenth ones are of Ashley Ording, fashion vixen from the Golden Collective. Ran into some trouble with the law recently, the cityscapes are results of trips to and from the courthouse & downtown. A homeless man appeared several times through these walks. ‘”Quit following me,” he said to me at one point. Then he tried his pitch at selling me a leather jacket again, too mobster so no thanks. Made with a Yashica-D TLR on Kodak Portra 160 VC.

Thanks, Joshua! Ten more shots after the jump, beginning with a haunting portrait of our BFF Lizzy Courtois, taken during our most recent Bloody Marython:

Dreamy, ethereal photos of Heirloom Cafe

Heidi Swanson of the excellent 101 Cookbooks snapped these lovely photos of the Kinfolk brunch at Heirloom Cafe over the weekend. Sounds like these Kinfolk brunches are a traveling series that bring together local artisans and small businesses in various cities.

I’ve never eaten at Heirloom Cafe, but I have friends who live above it and I’ve peeked in a few times while waiting for one of them to answer the door. Anyone know if it’s worth a try?

See the rest of the photos here.

Dolores Park after the rain

It’s an Instagram, so these colors are likely exaggerated, but it’s still pretty.
