Our pal Doc Pop is in the final week of his Kickstarter campaign to fund a zine project featuring lots and lots of gorgeous photography. Basically, if you donate, you’re pre-ordering the first issue (or more). It’s called “American Analog” and here’s Doc telling us all about it:

There, that should keep the 4-year olds from messin’ with your ride, and as a bonus you don’t have to carry it into the corner store and look like a total dweeb. Win win.

‘Cash for Gold’: the photography of The Tens opening reception TONIGHT at City Hall

The Tens is having his first photo show tonight in a very unlikely location: Supervisor Jane Kim’s office at City Hall room 282, from 4:30-6:30pm. If you have followed his tumblr or seen his work posted here, it’s probably safe to say you’re a fan. He’s been delighting the internet with his tasteful renderings of Fox Plaza for years. Brian also happens to be a civic-minded law-guy, so 30% of the proceeds will be going to the AIDS Legal Referral Panel.

Here’s a snippet from Chris Perez‘ statement on this show and The Tens’ work:

[The Tens'] photographs capture the loneliness and despondency that the city can so easily disguise with its majestic views, romantic architecture, and urban redevelopment. Brian not only sees the stark harshness of the city, but also the uneasy isolation that seems to swallow everyone here at some point in their lives. Over the years I’ve certainly been visited by this loneliness. It follows you from corner to corner, street to street, and it is a chill that is hard to shake. It makes you want to retreat from not only the city but also from yourself. In San Francisco, a person can easily vanish into the fog or slip between the cracks in the broken sidewalks of any neighborhood.

So basically it’s a light-hearted show bound to be full of laughs and whimsy and you should go. Besides, ever wonder how many people can fit in a city Supervisor’s office? There’s only one way to find out.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Three Different Rolls of Ektar 100

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

Technically this is three different rolls of Ektar 100 shot on a Yashica D, a medium format square frame camera with 12 exposures per roll. I shot my youngest sister in the cul-de-sac where I grew up, my other sister is posing lit by her car’s high beams. Brittany helped me experiment with some smoke bombs I found in Chinatown. Katie, Ashley, Shannon & I went out to look for Sutro Sam, he wasn’t around. Ashley Pamela hangs out in Union Square & helped me style black & white lace shoot with Kerri.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Evil Children and Partygoers

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

Right around the end of December I went into Tiny Telephone to record a single with Big Drag. My photographs of Boo and Ashley are directly influenced by the subject matter of Nobuyoshi Araki’s early work found in Sentimental Journey. A friend gets me into the SFMoMa sometimes so I go there and hang around till it’s almost empty. Special shout out to the Christmas Krampus, scaring evil children and partygoers for all time.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: The Subtle Details of the Photograph

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

Recently my focus has been on subtle details of the photograph. A strong subject still anchors the canvas but the concentration has been on the negative space, what I’ve tucked into corners or cropped out. This week’s set features Ashley, the Boo, Swagger Like Us, Rachel, Fauve & a shoot directed/styled by Chantel Beam.

Thanks, Joshua! Ten more shots (and a complete list of past installments of “Bad Blood”) after the jump:
