3D City: Colorful Streets

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

Taking a break from my usual routine (black and white people-on-the-streets shots), this week’s 3D City is all about the colors of the Mission. Buildings, trees, sunsets, etc. All shots taken with a Lumix DMC-3D1, my favorite new digital 3D camera.

Tons of fun with puddles

For a few months now, whenever it’s rained, our pal Angela May Chen has been hard at work on a lovely photo series in which she takes pictures of stuff all over the city — reflected in puddles. It’s fucking beautiful and the Bold Italic just published the whole lot of ‘em.

3D City: Can He Kick It?

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

There’s been a growing pile of not-yet-scanned 35mm film piling up in the corner of my studio. As I finally began the lengthy process of scanning and editing, I was instantly taken back to the one good rainy weekend we had this season. Wandering in the rain with my Nimslo 3D camera, stepping over discarded umbrellas, hanging out by Yamo watching the can-kicking-dude nail a trick shot, and trying to capture the rare SF lightning storm. Good times.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: I’ve Pissed off a Lot of People

Every now and then, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us, picks his 13 favorites, and we publish them here and it’s called “Bad Blood.” It used to be weekly but it’s become more sporadic since Joshua’s move to Los Angeles a few months back. He still comes back to SF every chance he gets (which is great for all of us) but regardless of where he shoots his rolls, it’s always a joy to get a peek inside his process with each new edition. Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s:

I’m pretty sure I’ve pissed off a lot of people in the 26 years I’ve been around in this body. I usually look my subject in the eye before or after taking the photo so that they don’t think I’m some timid voyeur or anything like that. Otherwise, interacting with various strangers and new friends over time introduces you to some pretty wild personalities. There’s a good amount of people in these photos that I imagine won’t be talking to me anytime soon as well but every town is a small town in certain ways.

Double exposures by Arthur Alvarez

This is from a series the local photographer calls “Above,” and it’s all great.

3D City: Sunny Day Real Estate

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

A weekend filled with bikes, low riders, and great weather in our neighborhood. Here’s some pics in case you missed it. All shot on a Fuji FinePix digital camera, which I’m still working on a little review for (in short; a great digital camera, but the lenses are too far apart).

3D City: Glowing

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

For the night is dark and full of glowy things… sorry, I’m still in character from that Game of Thrones prom thing at the Armory on Saturday. I’ve been bringing my Lumix 3D camera out on rainy nights and capturing neon signs and fire spinners around the city.

A few more shots after the bump.

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: The SF I Knew

Every now and then, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us, picks his 13 favorites, and we publish them here and it’s called “Bad Blood.” It used to be weekly but it’s become more sporadic since Joshua’s move to Los Angeles a few months back. He still comes back to SF every chance he gets (which is great for all of us) but regardless of where he shoots his rolls, it’s always a joy to get a peek inside his process with every new edition. Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s edition:

This Sears camera I bought for $20 at Glass Key on Haight St. has been good to me. There’s no meter though and since it’s a rangefinder I’m constantly fighting parallax. In this set I’ve included a picture of my old house on bartlett st inspired by a series my friend Diana (http://instagram.com/dirtydiana) is doing. I went to Pops for it’s last hurrah but the photobooth was already out of commission. How much more of the SF I knew will be gone when I’m there next? Please visit the booth at the Musee Mechanique for me and send me random photostrips. 1416 N. Gardner St #4 90046

3D City: The New York Bubble

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

Spotted this super-bubble floating through a park in NYC. Some folks set up a bucket filled with soapy water and were teaching kids how to make these wobbly giants, which is tougher than it sounds.
