My pet rescue sources tell me that the Michigan Humane Society is holding a friendly wager going with the SF SPCA. Per their Facebook:

We have a friendly wager going with our friends at The San Francisco SPCA! If the Detroit Tigers win the World Series, San Francisco SPCA will sponsor 10 animals in our care with a $10 reduction in their adoption fee. If the San Francisco Giants win the World Series, MHS will sponsor 10 animals in their care with a $10 adoption fee reduction. BRING IT ON!!

In the end, it is the pets who will win!!! Awwww, yeah I’m a dork.

There’s a mystery afoot, and Ros, a resident near 25th/Folsom, wants to know if anyone has any idea what’s going on:

I wanted to see if you knew what the deal is with the lone parrot outside of what used to be The Wing Foundation (http://www.thewingfoundation.org).

This one-foot-plus long bird seems to have been squawking a whole bunch more as of late. It’s in a large white cage, on Folsom St, with a sign attached telling passers-by that it bites. This biteyness, combined with the endless squawking have led to my workmates and I to nicknaming it ‘Jerk Bird’. Sorry Jerk Bird, I’m sure you have a nicer name.

In a way, I don’t blame it for being a jerk – I would be too if I were left alone in a cage with no shade, on Folsom St, for two 90-something deg days consecutively. Secondly, it looks like The Wing Foundation has closed up shop – the house is for sale, the site has an apologetic message and all the other birds seem gone.

My neighbor tells me that the bird is worth $20,000. I don’t know where he got that figure.

Perhaps this injustice is what all those wild parrots have been squawking about for god knows how long?  And seriously, nobody better get any clever ideas about getting cashing in a $20k feathered payday….

Our pal Cosmic Amanda tells us a little about her pal Percy:

I’m fostering Percy for Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. He was found running around on the street outside of Sacramento in pretty rough shape, but now he’s hanging out with me, getting ready for a new life and perfecting his Care Bear stare. He’s a furry little man of simple pleasures…napping, lap sitting, being carried around, and getting brushed. He’s going to make an awesome companion for someone. He’s also the stuff that tumblr dreams are made of- I mean, look at that face! I can’t make it to the end of a block without getting stopped by someone telling me how cute he is.

Also, Doc’s Clock’s Doggie Happy Hour on Saturday 4:00 – 8:00PM will benefit Muttville, with 50% of the bar and 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction going to the rescue. Percy (and no doubt other adorable adoptable senior dogs) will be there! I’ll also be bringing him to Sunday Streets in Alamo Square this weekend.

Today around 3:15pm I tied my dog Z up to a tree on 19th St in front of Radish, just off Valencia. I went into a store for about 10-15 minutes. When I came back she was gone and there was no sign of her. I am pretty sure she was stolen. She has a locator chip in her but it will only be useful if she is turned in. She is a yellow lab mix. I am desperate to get her home safely. We’re offering a huge cash reward on her behalf, no questions asked. If anyone has any ideas on how to get her back please let me know. I’m new to the Mission.
