Casting call for “Looking”

Formerly called “The Untitled Michael Lannan Project”, HBO’s new series about a few gay men who design video games and hang out in Mission bars is now casting for background extras. They have a “constant need for 20s-30s Hipsters/Mission Neighborhood types & LGBT Community”. And you “must be able to pull off Hipster vibe with your own clothes or style”. Make of that what you will.

Quit waiting around for the Real World narcissists to come to your neighborhood bar and get out there and get on this show! Then send us back some reports from the set!

UPDATE: Doc Pop notices that they’re shooting at Doc’s Clock today.

Smashed fire hydrant drowns parklet

Reader Erin A. saw this scene at 1:30am this morning:

This was going on in front of the Pilates Studio on Valencia, between 25 and 26.  I think a car ran over a fire hydrant, but I’m not exactly sure what really happened??

This is taken from across the street.  You can see the old firehouse (?) in the background, which is next to the Pilates Studio.  Poor studio…their parklet is completely totalled…..

Police collision at 18th and Mission Streets

Barbara sends these in:

UPDATE: They may have been in pursuit of a common suspect. In 2002 I saw a cop car speeding up 18th Street so fast it made me jump to the side. Minutes later the car collided with a wall at 17th and Dolores, killing the officer.

Emperor Norton’s Boozeland, the new Tenderloin bar by the Bender’s team, opening soon

We all had a lot of good times at Deco Lounge, as this picture and these pictures prove. But things change and businesses close and new businesses open in their place. Eater SF reports:

The team behind Benders Bar has had the keys to the former Deco Lounge in the Tenderloin for a while now, and they’ve finally spilled the beans to Tablehopper about what’s going in: Emperor Norton’s Boozeland. While the name implies a wacky SF theme park, the space is actually pretty simple: rock ‘n roll, basic dive-bar drinks, and a bust of the eponymous Protector of Mexico in the former ticket window. [link]

They’ve completely refurbed the place, knocking out the wall between the bar and the dance floor (if it’s even still a dance floor), replacing flooring and electrical and more, and opening up the back patio!!! Can’t wait! (Doesn’t sound like tater tots will be involved though, sadface.)

Follow Emperor Norton’s Boozeland on Facebook for updates!

Green plazas coming soon to Mission and Valencia? (Community meeting about it today!)

And by “Mission and Valencia,” we mean the corner of Mission and Valencia. Burrito Justice reports:

[T]he SFPUC, the SF Planning Department, and the SF Department of Public Works are seeking input on green plazas at Valencia & Mission, and at Valencia and Duncan.

[...]

So go to the meeting on July 9th and let them know that La Lengua appreciates the love.

Interview with Yeiner Pérez Garizabalo

Marta Franco has the story of the “Naked BART Man” over at Mission Local.

“I was giving out flyers of the show, and somehow I started thinking that my friends were pulling my leg and everybody there was pretending,” he said. “And I don’t know how, but I got naked and I was performing and I saw the people taking photos of me and I thought, ‘I’m at the Cirque du Soleil, I’m the great Yeiner, from Colombia’.”

She says that he hadn’t eaten or slept for four days and had a history of suicidal depression. The story also ties into possible political maneuvers by BART workers negotiating wages.
