16th Street BART Local Area Map Depicts a Stunted Dolores Park

They disappeared the south side of the park! My favorite part! I wonder where it went.

And then, after disappearing the block in question, they just slid the block under it up a bit. Like a big game of Klotski. Here’s an accurate map for reference:

So stay away from this display, lest ye be led astray:

Cesar Chavez Street Redesign Is Happening

Curbed SF has the scoop:

The newly-landscaped Cesar Chavez Street will run from Hampshire Street, just west of that insane juncture of Bayview Avenue, Potrero Avenue and Route 101 (where Bullitt made his famous illegal u-turn) and extend to Guerrero Street with two less lanes of traffic, the ever present bulb-outs, and a fourteen-foot-wide planted median.

Sounds good. How long will it be before Chavez is the new Valencia?

New Dolores Park Playground Faces Delays

Remember the planned Dolores Park Playground renovation? And how we all thought it meant the whole park was going to be closed for months on end?

Well, I guess it was supposed to start some time last month, but Dolores Park Works reports today that the funds just aren’t there. The renovation will be delayed at least until spring — at which point it won’t be “off season” anymore, so maybe it should be delayed until at least next winter. I dunno. Read on.

Who Wants a Permanent Parklet in Front of Ritual Roasters?

I do! (Mostly so’s it would pave the way for a permanent parklet out front of Arizmendi, and lots more permanent parklets all over town.)

Anyway, it’s been proposed, and Robert from Dolores Park Works tells us it may or may not be facing some opposition, so keep an eye out for word of some kind of public hearing, so you can attend and voice your opinion.

Future Park at 17th and Folsom Will Probably Take a While

Curbed SF reports:

The state has awarded a $2,700,000 grant for the long-planned urban oasis at 17th & Folsom Streets, currently a parking lot. It won’t happen tomorrow- they have yet to buy the lot from its current owner, the Public Utilities Commission, and still have to raise more cash to cover the project’s estimated $5,000,000 total cost.

Dang! Big numbers! Couldn’t we just do it guerilla-style like those skaters in Oakland?

Anyway, I like the name. Future Park! Badass, right? Read the rest of the story here, or leave a comment below suggesting a better name.

Dolores Park South?

What’s that? You’ve never taken Dolores Street all the way south to where it terminates into San Jose Avenue? It’s a fun journey, palm-lined the whole way, like a skinny, epicly hilly, miles-long extension of Dolores Park itself. AND, according to the San Jose/Guerrero Neighborhood website, that extension might get a nice little (really little) parklet-like public space at the end.

Dolores Park South, here we come!

See here if you want to know what all those letters mean.

Revelers Swarm Car, Beat Driver (Alternate Angle) [Video]

From reader Skyler S.:

I’m sick of watching these 21st Street Giants mob violence videos, but I was nearly mowed down by the driver and my friend got some gruesomely graphic footage. It’s terrible to watch. Even though the driver brought this upon himself, I don’t wish a beating like this on anybody.

UPDATE: Skyler explains what became of the driver:

A group of us started yelling stop and rushed in, a super citizen in front of us grabbed the driver and shoved him through the crowd to safety. The driver owes a lot (maybe his life) to whoever that fellow is that risked his shit to pull him out of the mob. His savior had a white and orange hat on, and an orange jersey (real distinguishable in a mob of orange right). You can see him pull the driver out of the mob in the other videos.

P.S. Wait, maybe it’s just that the driver of this SUV lost control into a parked car.
