Make-Out Room gets a new sign

Finally, a real sign for the Make-Out Room, and a sparkly sequined purple one, at that! Gone is the top marquee sign, with its friendly reminder to show some lovin’ to your sweetheart.

As shown above in animated GIF glory, the sequins’ slight movements in the wind produce an impressive kinetic shimmering effect. Reminds me of the installation inside the SFO BART station entrance:

Available chicks coming soon to Her Majesty’s Secret Beekeeper

Hey fellas! Her Majesty’s Secret Beekeeper is apparently hosting a singles night!

Seriously though, I stopped in to the storefront near 20th and Mission for the first time this weekend. The honey is pricey at $16, but it doesn’t get much more hyper-local than picking between “Inner Mission Honey” vs. “Mission Dolores Honey”. They all taste very different, which I guess isn’t that surprising given the distinct fauna and odors of each neighborhood.

I think I’ll pass on the “MUNI Tracks Above Dolores Park Honey” variety.

Mission Comics trying out graphic novel ‘rentals’

This could be cool: Mission Comics is offering credit for your used graphic novels in a new rental program. After all, who can afford to purchase 6 massive volumes of Akira just to find out you still don’t know what the fuck it’s about?

I would participate, but I keep all my comics in double-polybags with non-acidic backing boards in a humidity-controlled vault, so “reading them” is not really an option.

Get the details over at Mission Comics.

Hillbilly Dental

I don’t know if relying on a this individual for dental health is a good idea.

Kreayshawn goes to Thrift Town

I’m a little late to the game with the whole Kreayshawn kreayze, but that hasn’t stopped other notables from weighing in (“Godawful. Another white girl from the ‘burbs trying to act hard. Kesha with a bluntwrap”).  Nor has it stopped Kreay-Kreay from venturing out of Oakland to hang out in our hip little Mission district for the obligatory Thrift Town rack dive and jaunt through Clarion Alley.  Did she buy the same rainbow-vomit sweater you sold there last week?

Lost Weekend sunny sidewalk sale

What a beautiful sunny day in the Mission!  Everyone’s out and about walking around, and the sidewalks are alive with all sorts of interesting excitement.  Do yourself a favor and walk down Valencia or 24th and you won’t regret it!

Also, fans of cinema should be sure to stop by Lost Weekend video to check out their sidewalk sale.  They’ll probably do it again tomorrow too!  There’s definitely some gems in there–I came away with Murder by Death starring the legendary Peter Falk (and I guess Truman Capote)!!!
