It’s been way too long since the last Lusty Lady party at the Makeout Room, so if you haven’t made the trek across town to visit, now’s your chance to check out all the fun here in the Mission!  And if you have to remind yourselves why the Lusty Ladies are so rad, please refer to our pal Josh’s piece for the Bold Italic.

The Napper Tandy unveils its new look

The Napper Tandy on 24th S. Van Ness launched their new look last Friday. The exterior has been overhauled and lit with extra-bright fog lights. The interior has been completely redone to match their discerning, classy clientele of football fans (no, not “American football”).

What, you don’t hang out at the Napper Tandy? I’ll have you know that Irish Public Houses are part of a rich, worldwide tradition of capitalizing on Ireland’s drinking culture, and providing a safe haven for English visitors who too squeamish to socialize in unfamiliar countries. Take part in that rich tradition this weekend, won’t you?

Not only that, the Napper Tandy one of the few Mission purveyors of the full Irish Breakfast, which basically two of every animal you can think of. This “noah’s ark” diet is excellent fuel for a mid-day nap. Come to think of it, maybe that’s why “Napper” is in the bar’s name.

Dreamy, ethereal photos of Heirloom Cafe

Heidi Swanson of the excellent 101 Cookbooks snapped these lovely photos of the Kinfolk brunch at Heirloom Cafe over the weekend. Sounds like these Kinfolk brunches are a traveling series that bring together local artisans and small businesses in various cities.

I’ve never eaten at Heirloom Cafe, but I have friends who live above it and I’ve peeked in a few times while waiting for one of them to answer the door. Anyone know if it’s worth a try?

See the rest of the photos here.

City of San Francisco retracts Weston Wear citation

About half a day after Weston Wear was cited for being helplessly vandalized by the Monday night rioters (and later tagged), Weston Wear happily reports:

I guess all your nasty comments hurt their feelings! Way to go, readers! Keep ‘em coming.

ATA Art Auction FUNraiser

Since Artist’s Television Access puts the FUN in FUNraiser, you might consider putting the FUND in fundraiser at their art auction tomorrow evening (Friday, 5/4). Seriously, ATA has been a Mission staple for almost 30 years. We need them.

Artist’s Television Access invites you to attend this year’s Art Auction FUNRaiser! More than 50 works will be available, including pieces by Chris Johansen, Martha Colburn, Scott Hewicker, and many more!

Come for the art, stay for the refreshments! Live music by The Beehavers and a post-auction soul dance party!

ATA is at 992 Valencia Street, near 21st.

City of San Francisco joins Monday night rioters in their crusade against Weston Wear

Talk about adding insult to injury. Or is it adding pointless fine to injury?

On the shitty meter, this just about ranks up there with getting your car stolen and having to pay for towing.

Donate to help repair vandalized Mission businesses

As you already know, a bunch of local businesses were vandalized last night, causing what could be upwards of thousands of dollars in damage. An anonymous community member has stepped up and started a donation page, and the collected funds will go toward helping repair the businesses that were affected in last night’s riots.

These businesses include (but may not be limited to):

UPDATE: A lot of you are wondering whether this is a real donation page or a scam. I contacted the creator of the fund, and here’s what he had to say.

So I just moved into the area a little over a week ago and am very big into people taking care of their community. My Facebook account is facebook.com/ben if that helps put my name and reputation behind it. Also if there’s a way to give more authenticity to this please let me know.

As far as distribution and goal amount, I’m trying to crowd source it a bit by getting businesses to contact us with the extent of the damage but if that doesn’t work i’ll go out there and try and get hard numbers myself.

The dollar amount was simply something to shoot for that felt meaningful enough and doable. I’m open to ideas as to how to fairly distribute it, but rather than spend days debating that I’d rather get people mobilized and inspired to show their support.

I will say that I think other shows of support could be fantastic as well. I don’t know if it’s a day where we go and visit each business together, or send them something… I think something in addition to the money would be great.

UPDATE #2: It has been brought to our attention that there is a small transaction fee when you donate. Ben has generously offered to cover this fee.

Four Barrel’s Jeremy Tooker is America’s next top American Hipster

American Hipster, a new YouTube reality show about America’s next top American Hipster (I think), just did a profile on Jeremy Tooker, the owner of Four Barrel cafe / artisanal bike-storage facility. Check it:

The absurdity of sipping coffee samples from a tasting spoon and spitting them out into a cup is apparently not lost on him, either.

Signs of change in the neighorhood

Eh, perhaps I meant “change of signs,” but that’s not as catchy.  In any case, it looks like Rhea’s is going with the classy retro look to match their classy sandwiches.  Meanwhile, they’re up to something over at Escape From NY Pizza, but as to what, your guess is as good as mine.

Also, if you’re not outside right now, you’re totally blowing it.
