Comic Book Guide to the Mission art show this Saturday

Two Sundays ago it was raining pretty damn hard in the middle of the day. I ducked out of the storm at Mission Comics and Art where I got to watch a delightfully geeky discussion group about how lame the Star Wars prequels were and how epic Jeff Smith’s Bone series was. My kind of people! While I was there, I was finally able to pick up the Comic Book Guide to the Mission.

It’s a really great, intimate look at the Mission from the eyes of local artists. The book covers a lot of ground, including stories about being a lawyer dude trying to fit in at Pop’s, the hunt for the best taco, an anthropological observation of you-know-what-sters, and the history of Mission murals. Oh, and dating of course:

Speaking of Mission Comics and Art, Leef Smith and co. are hosting an art show featuring original panels from the CBGTTM. That would be a swell time to buy the book and meet some of the artists. It’s this Saturday, April 2nd  at 7pm. The store is on 20th and Mission.

Springtime means barefoot splashing in possibly hazardous Dolores Park pond

Ciudad de Rad has this adorable video of kids puddle splashing in Dolores Park. We don’t exactly have harsh winters, but this still means spring is here, right?! Click to watch:

Looks like fun! Although on second thought, I might have some health and safety questions about this particular giant sandbox…

Hipster eviction

Some New Balances, some Vice magazines, some graduate testing material . . .

Someone’s roommate is HELL OF pissed.

Demons in the water pipes

I know SF Public Works is upgrading water infrastructure in the Mission, but is anyone else experiencing this? They must have struck a massive river of ecotoplasm under the city, because shit is getting weird – if the tap starts pouring red I’m getting out of Dodge.

Night job

New Daft Punk video shooting on Mission! Tron royalties run amock!

The attention to detail regarding lighting is remarkable. Flashlight, spotlight, headlight; basically, all manner of lights. The utmost attention to proper illumination.

THE FUTURE.

Drinking fountain at 19th and Mission

Oh, that explains why my house doesn’t have water tonight.

I’m a hipster

Our buddy Primo, commenting on that whole NYC hipster trap project, may have just offered up the most solid take on the age-old hipster debate. This just might end it all once and for all:

before everybody got lost

A. hipster=weird person musician artist poet etc
B . pink sunglasses+ neon bike chain + pbr +etc etc=urban outfitters clone…

the disappearence of the middle class continues to make Americans into bitchy clods but i’m a hipster and that’s why i live in the city, to make art and have fun, eat it

or move to Antioch or some shit where boring white people all get along

I’m a hipster. Eat it.

Thanks, Primo!

Hey, you dropped your keys

Thank reader Jake for bringing this fact to your attention:

Somebody dropped their keys at 18th an Bryant.

Thanks, Jake! Cool looking keys, btw.

Boogaloos does guerrilla dining, soul night

I’ve never had the patience to stand in line on a Saturday morning at Boogaloos, but I’ve always heard good things, and it makes me regret my inability to stand in one place for more than 10 minutes.  So now it looks like I have an actual “you mean I don’t have to wait for 45 minutes?!” reason to check out this spot – graffEATS Guerrilla Dinning has moved on from The Corner and will set up shop for 4 nights only, starting tonight.  Check it:

The menu will be similar at all three dinners, with a few changes. We’re sticking to the soulful food and soulful beats theme, but with more soul this time, of course. My buddy, Jesse Durocher, from the “the Laundry” and Campton Place will be back with me in the kitchen again.

We will be taking walk-ins, but why not seal the deal with a reservation. Reservations can be made by simply emailing us.

Limited time only, so get on it.
