Local kids playing on uprooted jungle gym miss Dolores Park Playground

Now THIS looks like a rad playground!

But seriously, these kids’ mom, Elizabeth, who sent in this great pic, wants to know when the renovation is gonna hurry up and start: “We are psyched for the improvements but need to play.” Last I heard, the project was “on target for an early 2011 completion.” By which, I think, they mean an early 2012 completion. Sound good?

House Jenga

Ever wondered what your Mission residence’s foundation looks like? As this gutted Fair Oaks house demonstrates, it might resemble a popular party game.

15th and Van Ness Condos: ‘You’ve shopped at the Apple Store, now live in one’

Reader J9 sends us this:

These weird developer people came by my apartment today telling me that were going to build a bunch of gross loft condos down the street from my apartment at 15th street and S. van ness.

Take a look here:http://www.1501-15thstreet.com/

These condos don’t even look inhabitable- the buildings look like weird Darth Vader office buildings.

In case you’re a part of the Rebel Alliance, there’s a meeting tonight where you can discuss your concerns with the lack of neo-Victorian detailing in these chic living obelisks. Maybe you can glance at the plans and locate an unshielded thermal exhaust port:

Come to the 1501 15th Street Neighborhood Meeting on Wednesday, July 6th, 2011. The meeting will be held in Annunciation Cathedral at 245 Valencia Street @ 14th Street.

The Empire appears to be trying to evade dissent by not posting an actual start time, but rest assured, we have a contacted them and will update with the relevant info when we get it.

Update: Meeting starts at 6pm

Treat Street fireworks

While the views from Bernal Hill were awesome for checking out the fireworks above the city, the real party last night was on Treat Street. Every corner had it’s own flare and car trunkful of explosives, but no stretch of Treat was quite as impressive as between 20th and 21st:

Fire Breather!

Garage sale mayhem

The two guys by the drumset were giving the hi-hat an enthusiastic test drive, completely oblivious to the guy convulsing and dry heaving over the gutter just inches away from them.

Well-dressed man selling fruit cups in Dolores Park

Thanks, Jerry!

Just what the fuck is going on here, house on Capp St.?

Won’t you tell us what this is about, oh armpit-smelling-face-tats-sea-captain-banana-pants great one? Just want to make sure this is the right cult for me.

This Month in Mission Mission: July

2010

2009

2008

2007

  • Nothing happened in the Mission July 2007 at all. It’s the only possible explanation.

Let’s follow Craig Stoll around the neighborhood

It seems that the owner of Delfina and I have a shared hobby: walking around the Mission and taking random pics. Here are two of his:

Yeah, I totally want to party with this pinky.

I would call this “hip-o-critical”.

But really, whew, glad this isn’t aimed at me.

Tamale Lady’s birthday party at Zeitgeist

Not doing anything tonight? Why not celebrate Tamale Lady’s birthday and help save KUSF, all within the comfort of Zeitgeist’s beer garden? There will be jug band tunes, movie screenings, and a $10 donation gets you all-you-can-drink beer, birthday cake, and Tamale Lady’s homemade chicken mole and pasta salad.
