Sad Vader Sighting

I was like, “Hey Sad Vader, why so glum?” And he was all, “Dude, read between the lines.”

Tonight: Three-Minute Cinematic Masterpieces

Tonight, Root Division at 17th and SVN hosts a very special event:

What happens when both professional and first time filmmakers pledge to spend 30 days creating 3-Minute masterpieces? Find out at the 6th Annual 3-Minute Film Festival Black Tie Gala and Film Screening, the August edition of Root Division’s monthly Second Saturday Series.

Link. In addition to the screenings, comedy duo Andrew Lowder and Jeff Cleary will perform. Cleary says, “I can’t give away anything about the performance, but let me just say, there’s never been a life-coach who’s seen the act and not fallen over dead.” Note that the “black tie” thing is no joke.

Help a 'Clean, Responsible Early 20s Couple' from Kentucky

My favorite Craigslist post of the day, titled “$700 Kentucky couple needs a few weeks to get established”:

Hello everyone! We are a clean, responsible early 20s couple looking for a temporary sublet loosely in the time frame of July 14th-August. We have just arrived (two days ago) from Lexington, KY, which just wasn’t San Fran enough for us. I (Jabriel) was recently alerted to the declining health of a close family member, so we began our journey earlier than we expected, leaving us with virtually no place to stay once we arrived.

The budget we’re working with is $700/mo, but we would be willing to talk about higher costs-so long as it would not be an e-mail/internet conversation. Phone calls are appreciated. We are liberal and non-biased, so anyone worrying yourself with prejudices/ hatred- you are looking in the wrong area. We are willing to share a house with you REGARDLESS of your race/gender/sexual orientation. We are not very picky about size/space- all we ask is for a quieter, drug-free environment somewhere in SF to stay long enough to save up for an apartment. This should not take any more than 2-3 weeks, since we are a working couple. I will provide a picture, to show we are not the people on the neighborhood watch signs, nor pictures under any WANTED ads in your local grocer. If you have any questions about our personality or compatibility, feel free to call us at (859) 227-7216, or e-mail. Thank you dearly for taking the time to read through this. We bid you a wonderful day, and hope to hear from you soon!

I like how in the accompanying four-year-old picture they provide, they already kind of look maybe older than early 20s. But it’s tiny and blurry so we could be wrong. Anybody gonna lend a hand? Or at least give ‘em a phone call?

Coulrophobia aka Clown Phobia

I had never really found clowns particularly scary until I saw this charmer at Carnaval this past weekend. On the surface she seems nice, making inflables sweet balloon animals for the kids (notice that monkey in the front row). But the demonic gleam in her eye in the photo above hints towards a darker side:

It might just be me, but the lilting incantations coupled with the oddly unrhymed phrases is more than a little bit creepy.

Even if JJ wasn’t frightened, I was.

Saturday Night Entertainment Option: Doo Doo & Buttholes with Sex Appeal at the Darkroom

Mission Mission fan, who this press release says is “well read and dashingly handsome”, is performing tomorrow night with a bunch jeux gonflables of other local comedians:

Along with the stand up comedy will be beer, strip club critiques, and most likely some heated arguments about Iron Man.

If that sounds good, get tickets here.

Weekend Entertainment Pick: The Kids in the Hall

The Kids in the Hall perform Saturday at the War Memorial Opera House. In January we ran my interview with Dave Foley, in which he dropped some hints about the substance of this current tour — and shared the following bit of actorly introspection:

You know what? I think I’m too old to play a young Asian girl now.

Tonight: Free Comedy Bloodbath at Delirium

Jeff from SFstandup hips us to a new Wednesday night option:

Just thought you’d like to know, there’s a new stand-up comedy night right in the heart of the Mission at the Delirium on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30. The two guys running it, Joey Divine and Joe Gorman, have only done it 3 times so far, so it’s still ramping up. But on April 30th, they’re having structure gonflable their most ambitious show, “Kevin’s vs. Joe’s” featuring upper-level local comics who have performed at the Punchline and all over the Bay Area.
