From SFGate:
The man was identified by BART police as 24-year-old Yeiner Garizabalo. Friends said Tuesday he goes by Yeiner Perez and is a dedicated acrobat and performer. The episode, they said, was strongly out of character.
“He’s been through a lot of stress — he seems to have been having a breakdown,” said Slim Chance, who leads the Berkeley circus troupe ClownSnotBombs. Perez was a member from January to early May. “That seems to be the tip of it right there. I just can’t tell you anything more because I don’t really know what his state is. It’s not at all like his normal character.”
Chance said Perez, normally a “workaholic acrobat,” stopped showing up to the group’s practices several days before the episode.
“I don’t think it was anything with drugs,” Chance said. “I don’t know. We’re thinking he may have even had a stroke sometime last year. We’ve been trying to piece it together ourselves.”
Well, this explains all of the gymnastics and aerobics the guy was performing, although it doesn’t really explain the naked part or the violent demeanor. Hopefully this person is able to get the care and help that they clearly need. Judging from his Facebook profile, he seems like a fairly normal guy (for a circus performer).

Previously:
Video of the disturbing assault committed by the obviously deranged ‘naked, spitting, pissing dude‘ who shut down the 16th Street BART station last month has finally surfaced, and it’s quite disturbing to witness. Taken by the station agent on duty at the time, it depicts the guy going after a defenseless woman, and old man, and performing numerous naked aerobics.
When we first wrote about this, many wondered why no one came to the defense of those being attacked, but after seeing it all happen in real time, I must admit that I too would be a bit reluctant to take this guy on. And why did it take so long for the police to show up? What would you have done?

Mission Local reports:
San Bruno Police, with the assistance of San Francisco Police SWAT team, searched a home on Folsom Street, between 21th and 22nd streets, for evidence of the ongoing investigation of Cecilia “Yaya” Zamora’s homicide, who was found dead in Pacifica in April, said Lt. Tim Mahon of San Bruno Police.
Investigators took residents cell phones and two computers, said Debbie Patton, a resident at the home. However, there were no arrests, Mahon said.
This is almost as rad as the time that guy tracked down the guy who stole his bike on Craigslist and traveled all the way from Portland to Seattle to set up a sting operation. From Fossil Fool:
Stolen bike recovered in heroic fashion on Bartlett St. as members of the Rock The Bike crew pedal power their way through a U-Lock. If your bike is stolen in the Mission, mobilize your networks to get lots of eyeballs working for you, pattern matching your bike against all the ones they see. Bike thieves aren’t the brightest bulbs on the tree…
Nice work SF cyclist community!
Another great shot by Doc Pop. Score his awesome zine here.
On Friday evening, a man tried to steal my phone on the 14, ripped it out of my hands and ran off the bus. In some fit of animal instinct, I ran after him off the bus, fought him, and got it back. I will spare you most of the details here, but if you want to read my full account of it, redirect yourself here.
Here some quick thoughts:
I don’t know what became of the mugger, and I’d like to think that my altercation with taught him a lesson and scared him enough to lay low for awhile (or, optimistically, to retire from mugging!), but the reality is that he is still out there and he may strike again. Stay safe, everyone.
@missionmission @telstarlogistic @abc7newsbayarea Hi speed chase in Mission. Gray BMW pursued by 10+ SFPD. Just blew thru 16th & Harrison.

I mean, I love Trick Dog as much as the next guy, and I know parking is hard if you don’t get to the 20th Street Corridor early, but.

One person seems to have been injured in the gunfire onboard this 49 MUNI, which occurred at around 10pm on Mission at 22nd St. According to some shook up witnesses who were also on the bus:
There were a few shots and someone got hit in the stomach. Then about 6 guys surrounded him and started beating him with little sticks before they all ran off. I don’t think the guy’s dead though.
Details are still being collected and police are at the scene.
UPDATE!!!
More information has been revealed and apparently our witness was a little more shook up than he thought. There was no shooting onboard, but rather a savage beating with a tire iron. Police think maybe the sound of the tire iron hitting a pole or seat led to people thinking they heard a gunshot. SF Appeal has more details here.
