Our pal Doug from Ice Tubes got jacked:
I was enjoying some after work drinks on Election Night when I decided I had one too many to safely ride my bike home. I put my bike on the front rack of an outbound #71 at Market and 2nd, and took a seat on the front of the bus. I was on the sixth seat back, and had a decent view of my bike. The next stop was Stockton and we pulled up to a red light. As people were boarding the bus I had my head down until the driver called out that someone was taking my bike. By the time I stood up my bike was gone. I ran off the bus and headed back down Market assuming the thief was riding off in that direction but I couldn’t see anything among the lights of Market Street rush hour traffic.
Read on. And never take your eye off your bike. And if you see Doug’s bike, please let us know.
SFist reports:
After seeing an increase in violent crime and gang activity in the Mission over the past few months, SFPD will ramp up their presence around the elitist yet gritty neighborhood. Spurred on by the four homicides that occurred in the district in the past two weeks, SFPD Chief Greg Suhr told the press yesterday that the department would be sending in more plainclothes and uniformed officers as well as additional patrol cars and motorcycle units to cover problematic spots like the 16th and Mission BART plaza.
“The temperature is hot right now between the Hispanic gangs,” Chief Suhr said at a press conference yesterday, although he declined to specify which gangs exactly. Citywide, there have been 58 confirmed homicides this year, up from 44 homicides around this time last year.

Late last night, some monocot-hater(s) sliced through the trunk of one of the palm trees near 20th and Church. Shortly after being discovered this morning, the damaged tree was deemed an immediate hazard and was taken down at around 2pm.
It almost looks as though the intention was to have the tree fall onto the tracks, as if the J-Church needs any more delays.
I can say from, err, personal field research, that the cops cleared everyone out of the park playground at midnight, so this probably happened after that unless these guys were super-quiet about it.

In the wake of yesterday’s officer-involved shooting, protestors apparently took to the streets:

A whole lot of SFPD responded seriously quickly:
After the jump, a bunch more show up and march down to the BART plaza:
Details are still forthcoming, but the initial account has a kid running from police (his apparent transgression is unknown at this time; hopefully it’s not something as insignificant as vandalism) when he was shot three times, possibly in the back. Again, we’re still waiting on the whole story.
In the meantime, a retaliatory tag withe the word “KILLERS” decorated the Mission police station, which is currently on high alert. The neighborhood is swarming with cops right now. Everyone please be careful out there and let’s not do anything crazy, ok?
UPDATE: Now we’re hearing the kid was approached by an undercover officer and then started running, after which he was shot three times in the back. Why, we still don’t know, but please be careful out there everyone.
UPDATE 2: Mission Local has more details on the situation, but it looks like the person who was shot also allegedly pointed a gun at police officers.
