Boss Tycoon Comes to Town

Tipster Chris writes in with photos of a new smoke shop being put up AS WE SPEAK on 24th and Folsom:

At first I thought tipster Chris was messing with us with a couple of doctored pics.  A sign that ugly can’t be real.

Boss Tycoon is clearly taking typography tips from a seasonal Halloween Headquarters store.  Cool!

Rumormonger: Magic Curry Man Starting New Vietnamese Noodle Venture

Screen shot 2009-10-11 at 1.56.57 PM

I managed to make my way over to the Magic Curry Kart to check out his epically delicious new pumpkin curry when I overheard that his employment situation (corroborated by NBC Bay Area) is allowing him to start a new Vietnamese noodle venture.  If this is anywhere near as good as the curry, I’ll finally have a reason to never set foot in Sunflower ever again.

In other street food news, there was some guy selling eggroll-like fried bananas that were the total jam.  Tragically, a bottle of Pinot Noir prior to street dinner caused me to completely forget who this guy was (sorry twitternets), but if you see him hawking his wares, don’t hesitate to eat them.

TCB Courier Unveils Service Area Map and Pricing

I’m pretty upset that they will not deliver to my yacht parked in the middle of the Bay, but this is still pretty sweet:

tcb_map

Regarding the map (warning: PDF):

we will deliver to you if you’re even remotely close to the zone..  this is just to discourage 3am deliveries to the zoo

but we will do it . if someone wants to pay

Who wants to go halfsies on an order of Zante’s delivered to the grizzly bear enclosure?

The Mission Finally Has Late-Night Bike Delivery: TCB Courier Service

TCB_courier_service

This is genius:

We’ve just started the missions first late night delivery service. We deliver pretty much anything you need.. Want a burrito and its 1145 and your drunk at the bar.. call us.. Need two gallons of milk, some rubber gloves and a dental damn… call us..

This is the brain child of two messengers that got sick and tired of sitting around downtown on standby all day, and decided to make something happen. There is late night delivery in NYC, Boston, Philly, and tons of other city’s, SF needs to get some.

And the reviews are in:

i was the first customer! we used TCB to pick up and deliver a pizza from a place that won’t deliver. A great idea, and I’m stoked that it’s Chas.

Ye333eeessss broooooh

Full disclosure: I don’t know Chas personally (one of the service’s proprietors), but he and his friend crushed the Mission Mission Alleycat yesterday, beating out the next finisher by 29 minutes.  Boy can ride a bike.

Wind Knocks Some Shit Down at 25th n' Utah

Wind knocks some shit down!

Looks like some wind FUCKED UP some scaffolding (with a little vehicular collateral damage).

Mission Loc@l has a really long story on it that I didn’t read but I’ll summarize for you here anyways:

  1. It was wicked windy in SF last night.
  2. Some construction crew did not properly secure the scaffolding to the building
  3. Wind knocked over some scaffolding
  4. One of the car owners is really pissed off this happened
  5. The other car owner could not be reached for comment
  6. The people renting the building said they heard a noise and then noticed there was wood everywhere.  ”We were, like, shit!  That doesn’t look right!”
  7. Spelling mistake
  8. A spokeswoman for the construction company apologizes for the incident, blames the wind, says this type of stuff happens a lot in places like Chicago
  9. A visibly still drunk worker mentions that he was out with his friends when he got the call to come pick stuff up
  10. Workers get mad overtime pay
  11. Company + insurance has to replace the vehicles
  12. Profit!

Was I right?

Fayes Video Reviews

Faye's Video

I don’t know if you realize this, but there are 5 movies in the “Bring It On” franchise. Which is kind of amazing.

Awesome neighborhood video store Fayes Video & Espresso Bar (a former employer of mine) are more than just a witty sandwich board. They review all five so you can decide what kind of drinking game to put together for your cheerleader slumber party.

Read the reviews and more musings from 18th and Guerrero here.

Who Wants to Host a Neighborhood Windows 7 Launch Party?

Sorry, everyone, I realize this is unrelated to the Mission.

Or is it?!

If anyone wants to throw a Microsoft house party, call me up.

Ritmo Latino Moves On

el_ritmo_moves_on

Reader Erich sends this in from 16th and Mission, signaling the very end of the neighborhood’s latino music megastore as it transitions into a T-Mobile megastore.  While I never went into the store, I’ll miss gawking at the Ricky Martin handprints cemented to their entryway.

More on Ritmo Latino’s closing at Mission Loc@l.

Dial B For Beretta

As someone without a tap-tap-tap smartphone, I often use GOOG-411 to dial up local establishments while away from the www.   Boop beep bamp bompbomp… I’ll connect you!

This past weekend, unfortch, attempts at reaching Beretta (Valencia at 23rd) were all sorts of messed.

Voice search pronunciations carried out included: brrrr-eh-tah, bee-reh-duh, beh-re-TA!, and so forth.  Attempts were made by three parties of mixed age, gender, and socioeconomic status.  No dice!

Goog did, however, pull up the following results:

  • Goodwill (wha?)
  • Baraka (almost!)
  • Piranha (eh.)
  • Ghirardelli Square (pronounced: grrr-ARRGHHH… delisquare)

Sure, okay, I’ll dine at Goodwill.

READERS: Try this one at home! If you figure out the correct way to pronounce “Beretta” for GOOG-411ing purposes, make me a reservation. The caponatina with burrata (#56 on the 7×7 list) makes eggplant relevant again (sorry, eggplant).
