Cancun Multi-tasking

Real multi-tasking is making four burritos and giving props to the a dude standing on the counter taking his picture at the same time.

Snapped at Taqueria Cancun by Chris Kalani who apparently did lots of cool stuff during his visit.

Gone Bananas

Amie spotted this sad banana at Rainbow Grocery this weekend. I blame the raw foodists.

Here’s a closer look:

My Life is ____, My Home is ____

MrEricSir thought those “My life is San Francisco, my home is Parkmerced” ads were dumb and came up with some of his own:

My life is waiting 45 minutes for the M Oceanview, my home is Parkmerced

My life is SFSU and smoking weed, my home is Parkmerced

My life is getting lost in traffic circles, my home is Parkmerced

I’m from a terrible central valley town named Modesto. Every time I see “Parkmerced” I think of the neighboring city of Merced and wonder why anyone would want that association. Just about the only thing it had going for it was the Fatty Mocha, an illegal coffee shop + punk venue + crash pad run by a stoner punk rocker named Darren. I had my first show ever there with my high school ska band. I also probably got drunk for the first time ever off beers he bought for us. Man, what happened to that guy?

Back to the subject: Why stop there? MrEricSir went on to come up with slogans for other ‘hoods:

My life is being invaded by the Chinese, my home is North Beach

My life is your art school, my home is Union Square

My life is SoCal, my home is the Marina

My life is a non-profit arts collective, my home is the Mission

Get the rest here. Or hell, comment with your own if you’re so smart.

You've Lived in the Neighborhood, Now Own the Bag

Our pals at Mission Bicycle have teamed with Rickshaw Bagworks (makers of the Beerdolero) to launch their own custom messenger bag program that appeals to you, Mission boy/girl/other! You see, these bags, in addition to full color options, also offer intersection options. Pick your Mission intersection and it gets sewn on the bag. Go ahead, try to stump them with Lapidge and 19th.

These are also a bit more pimped out than your standard Zero Rickshaw bag, with added umbrella lining for waterproofiness. They also added buckles to the bag for you competitive overstuffers, as well as the extras of a stabilizing cross strap, pen holder, inside zippered pocket, card holder, etc.

They go for $89 and 99 (medium/large), but tonight they are 10% as part of the Mission Block Party.

Two Cool Shows Tonight

First: one of the baddest (in a good way) guitarists around Michael Abraham is leading a tribute to legendary jazz bassist/pianist Charles Mingus tonight at Amnesia as part of the SF Jazz Hotplate Series. The band features a sick (again, in good way) lineup of local musicians: Dayna Stephens, Erik Jekabson, Sylvain Carton, George Ban-Weiss, and Eric Garland. 8-11pm. Mike also leads the Wednesday night Jazz Jam Session at Amnesia.

Secondly, on another side of the musical spectrum: STRING METAL band Judgement Day will be performing an intimate little show at the Porto Franco Art Parlor tonight at 7:30pm. Anton Patzner is basically this sicko genius who runs his violin through a Marshall stack. His bro shreds out power chords on the cello and they are joined by a drummer. You will head bang. Hard. The Art Parlor is at 953 Valencia the show costs $15.

Don't Forget: 3rd Annual Mission Holiday Block Party Friday

In case you’ve heard, the 3rd annual Mission Holiday Block Party is this Friday, from 5-10pm.

Not only is this a good night to score some deals from some of your favorite stores on Valencia, it’s also a great cheap night out if you manage to hit up all the locations with free drinks. SF Fun Cheap has a good run-down of the specific offers.

Get Your Fix In While You're Young

Before you go and call that irresponsible parenting, note that she kept both brakes. See you on Potrero Hill, Xenia!

Portrero Hill Bombing

Maybe there’s something to this whole intelligent design thing because Darwin is clearly wrong about these guys, who filmed themselves bombing Portrero hill and blowing stop signs on fixed-gear bikes.

BikeSnobNYC had these bits of commentary gold to offer:

I’m not sure why you’d make a video like this and put it on the Internet unless your goal is to figuratively urinate on the graves of every cyclist who has ever been killed by a motor vehicle through no fault of his or her own.

Ouch! And:

You’d also think that, in a city like San Francisco, climbing hills quickly would be the true measure of cycling prowess, but I guess water and stupidity always find their own level.

Great idea. Anyone want to start making some impressive “reverse hill bombing” videos? Let us know. We’ll meet you with the cameras (these may be cell phone cameras) at 22nd and Church.

Dregs One on Gentrification

SF native and hip hop artist Dregs One just started a series of videos called “The Wake Up Report“. The first subject? Mission and Fillmore gentrification. Oh boy, here we go again.

Nothing too new here: he drops the H-Bomb a couple of times, there is a cameo by the Bay Area Derailleurs, and some extremely awkward interviews with inarticulate folks in Dolores Park. He doesn’t get too nasty towards transplants, but it seems like his big beef is that the new folks don’t really make an effort to integrate into the community or learn it’s history. I assume opening your fancy restaurant on Valencia street doesn’t count as integrating and debating which Taqueria invented the Mission burrito doesn’t count as history.
