3D City: Color Mission

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

A bunch of scenes from right around Mission and 19th. Mission Jewelry & Loan, the old El Capitan marque, the skeleton of a bike, and ashes from a small church fire. Shot on a vivid roll of Kodak’s Portra film.

BTW, I’ve recently launched a Patreon for my stereoscopic photo project, thanks to everyone who’s kicked in so far and helped me reach the first goal.

3D City: Powell

15 minutes at Powell Street turnaround. I got to a downtown photo-walk 15 minutes early, so I snapped these shots (and a bunch others) all off while waiting for the walk to start. Crazy cause I never really had that much luck shooting there before.

This is the second roll of Ilford HP5 I’ve shot this month, and I think it works great for this project. The thing is that it’s rather expensive. The folks at Photoworks have been helping this project out with some deals on developing, but I wanted to ask you guys for help to. If you dig 3D city, kick in two bucks on my Patreon to help the good film coming.

3D City: Step by Step

Walk around photographing the city long enough and you’ll end up with plenty of photos of stairs. I was building up quite a collection and thought they deserved their own post.

“I like a escalator, man, ’cause an escalator can never break. It can only become stairs.” – Mitch Hedberg

3D City: Highs, Lows, Middles

My morning walk from the Mission to downtown is one of my favorite rituals. When shooting photos along the way, this walk takes about 30 minutes. Unless it’s raining, then I’ll be out for hours.

This batch was shot on my Nimslo 3D with a roll of Ilford HP5 (my default “foggy day” film) on a recent rainy morning, then dropped off at Photoworks on the walk back home where I’ll load up film for the next day’s walk.

3D City: World Series

Another year, another batch of street fires and riot cops. Here’s some of the craziness I saw on Mission St shortly after the Giants won the World Series. If for some reason, Wigglegrams aren’t your thing… and that’s a big if… I’ve posted more shots on Flickr.

3D City: Ring Mountain

Just outside of Tiburon is an amazing little hike along the Ring Mountain Open Space Reserve. A fantastic view of the bay, Mt Tam, and SF. Be sure to bring your climbing shoes and a roll of redscale film if you have it. It’d play nice with the colors you’d find there this time of year.

Some shots of young and old from around the city. Speaking of old, this 3D City column just turned 6… months old- the column just turned 6 months old. To celebrate, I posted my 10 favorite (analog) shots of the series so far.

Some recent pop art found around the neighborhood. Pop art… get it? Because it’s bubble gum. More sidewalk art (in amazing 3D) after the bump.

3D City: Capp St. Crap

3D City is a year long stereoscopic photography project by Doctor Popular

It often seems easier to photograph in other neighborhoods than in your own. Things just seem more exotic, I guess. This week I wanted to show some scenes from Capp St, right out our front door. Named this week’s column in honor of the Capp St Crap blog, which posts some crazy scenes from our weird little street.
