Fire between buildings

Last night around 11pm a fire caught between the building that houses Cha Cha Cha and the one that holds Specchio on Mission Street.

The two buildings are just a couple inches apart, so the firefighters seemed to have a difficult time making sure they fire was completely extinguished.

Shutting Down Mission Street

They brought the hoses to the roof and sprayed down into the narrow space, which would send a vertical sheet of water out at the gawkers.

Onlookers

There were a lot of gawkers (present company of course included), coming out of the bars, probably wanting any excuse to get away from creepy Marina bros in Dr. Teeth.

Fortunately it looked as if there was no serious damage to either of the buildings, and nobody was injured. Plus I got to hear some good lines from the fireman to some drunk ladies excited at seeing some real men in action on their night out.

Fireman: “So, what are you guys drinking tonight?”

Well, I guess you don’t really need a good line if you’re in a fireman uniform and holding a 3 foot ax.

Four wheeled bowling alley

Somebody finally installed a bowling alley in the Mission, but they did it in a car.

Lou Reeds

The ever inventive Doctor Popular recently walked down Osage Street and discovered 32 Lou Reed stencils on the ground. Over on Objective Scenes, the group mobile phone photography blog*, of which he is a member, he posted up the below gif which moves through all of the stencils as seen by his mobile phone camera. Pretty cool result.

*That is definitely an explanation that would not have made sense to me five years ago.

Let’s follow Craig Stoll around the neighborhood

It seems that the owner of Delfina and I have a shared hobby: walking around the Mission and taking random pics. Here are two of his:

Yeah, I totally want to party with this pinky.

I would call this “hip-o-critical”.

But really, whew, glad this isn’t aimed at me.

Hectic three car crash

At 19th and Valencia. Captured here by DocPop.

SF Appeal says only minor injuries. (whew!)

Second pic sent in by tipster Ben, who writes “The other car involved, a hybrid honda civic, came out relatively unscathed. Yet another tragic story of when hybrid drag racing goes wrong.”

Tuesday Night Cop Scene
(file photo, one block North of incident)

Kimberly wonders what was going on last night (Friday):

Last night, my friend and I were at 18th & Mission around 10:15 or so. Dude runs past – you always wonder why they’re running – he’s followed by a dude who shouts “I can keep running all night!” (Clearly it’s a cop in street clothes) Then the ENTIRE block is shut down by, like, 15 or 20 cop cars. No reports on it this morning. We almost got run over by a cop while crossing the street to get away.

Anyone have any additional info?
