The Mystery of the Hanging Pigeon

There is a hanged pigeon outside my window. I take no joy in this. Evidence seems inconclusive to me as far as cause of death. Accidental? Maybe it got caught in this plastic bag and then hooked on the fence. Murder? A trap? Dinner?

UPDATE: I climbed up and freed the bird, also getting what I believe to be an answer to the primary question. Any guesses?

Cash 4 Gold/Watermelon 4 Hat

From our Facebook page, we received a tip of a brand new combo offering in the neighborhood. Colleen O’Rourke says “A new local character has stepped onto The Mission stage”.

Woody in the Mission

Now that word’s all over (internet) town that Woody Allen is filming his new movie here in SF and even specifically in the Mission at times, and we’ve even argued over which one of us may actually be Woody Allen, some are beginning to wonder, what does Woody in the Mission sound like?

“Ping pong is so tiring, all the running around the table, I want a calmer sport, like getting home from Dear Mom with my wallet still in my pants.” – Woody Allan Hough.

San Francisco Love

Check out this music video that the youth media producers at BAYCAT (where I work) made this summer, shot in Dolores Park. These native San Franciscan producers (10-13 years old) wrote and produced the song with amazing Bay Area producer Trackademicks and shot the video with DP Laura Valladao. The video is part of the 24th installment of their youth-produced show, Zoom In. The theme for this one is “Only in SF”.

You might have heard that they had all of their laptops stolen a couple weeks ago, along with a lot of their work. We have an Indigogo campaign going to replace their equipment, and have been really touched with the support. They came back together and re-did the lost work, look for more of it rolling out over the net few weeks on the BAYCAT YouTube channel.

Did you lose your bag about 20 feet above Cancun?

‘Cause I may have found it. Better go claim it before that window looky-loo figures out where it is.

On second thought, this could be the turning point in some really good story involving cat burglars, a mystical ankle bracelet found in a pawn shop, and roof people versus alley people.

All evidence to the contrary, this is not an F stop

Three memories of a neighbor

I worked at Fayes Video on 18th Street from the late 90′s into the mid 00′s. The woman who set herself on fire on Dorland Street last weekend, later passing away at a burn center, was a regular customer during that time.

You can read a bit about what happened as well as reflections by members of her family (in the comments) at Mission Local. After the jump, the co-owners of Fayes and I each share a few thoughts about Colleen.

Friendly take over of the Asian Art Museum

Here’s a great chance to get out of the Mission! Space Bi, a “pop-up, parasitic, and unauthorized contemporary art center” will be infesting and completely inhabiting the Asian Art Museum this Thursday, July 26th from 5-9pm.

It sounds pretty fun:

As a forum for alternative programming, Spacebi reimagines the museum as a collective artist studio. Be a part of Spacebi, create new artworks, and join us for the “official” celebration of a year worth of artist projects, creative collaborations, and off-the-record experiments all inspired by the Asian. COME PLAY!

Event on FB here; site link here.
