The daintiest spot in San Francisco?

The Tiny Street

Such a tiny cobblestoned alley, the corner of Pink & Pearl.

Two new local music videos

Back once again with some new music videos from the BAYCAT (Bayview Hunters Point Center for Arts and Tech) youth media producers. As I must mention, I happen to work at this organization, but also highly enjoy the work that these kids are producing, and since their neighborhood doesn’t have a blog like this I like to share it here.

First up is a music video made with youth from City of Dreams, a non-profit based out of the Oakdale neighborhood in Hunters Point. The video was organized by BAYCAT, produced by Zara Ahmed and Katie Cruz and was directed by the youth for a new song by Trackademicks featuring Lyrics Born. Yep, Lyrics Born. I was out when the video was shot and I’m still bummed about it.

Next up, “Looking For”, was produced by the Music Production class with Evan Adams. The youth wrote the lyrics and produced the beats, and the filmmaking class shot the video in Potrero Hill, again with Zara Ahmed and Katie Cruz. The song and video are part of the 25th episode of their show, Zoom In. This one is about the 2012 Election. You may notice the personas they chose for themselves in the video: the goth, the nerd, the hipster and the student.

Man shot four times on Natoma

Last night a latino man was shot four times on Natoma Street at 15th. Apparently he is in critical condition now, but seemed awake and was moving when I watched them load him into the ambulance. From what I could see the shots were to his stomach.

Here’s hoping he recovers well. Thoughts go out to the friends and family.

Bring your boat to brunch

The Tartine Line, traditionally known as 18th and Guerrero, floods when it rains like this. Our friend Jenny sent us these pics of the current state.

UPDATE:

Here’s another at 18th and Valencia from kowitz on Instagram.

UPDATE 2: The block is totally clear of water and it’s sunny out. Go out and play.

It’s duck weather out there

Package thief fought off with bear spray

It seems that a woman got a serial package thief arrested today, after setting a trap and spraying him with bear spray. “Professional food pornographer” Sonya Yu tweeted the ordeal as it unfolded. Select tweets appear below in chronological order.

Noe Valley SF also has some video.

Friday plans

Check out these two things going on this Friday night:

First, our friends over at Muni Diaries are throwing a party for the opening of In Transit, a photo show celebrating 100 years since the first Muni car picked up its passengers, probably half an hour late.

The opening reception this Friday will also feature our new “Rename Your Muni Line” game where you can bestow a new nickname for your line (6-Parnasty, anybody?) on a humongous map, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey style (no blindfolds, unless you’re so inclined).

Participating Photographers include Jeremy Brooks, Roi Brooks, Reynaldo Ruetas Cayetano Jr., Claudine Co, Mike Dillon,Brandon Duran, Adolfo Echeverry, Dave Glass (Dizzy Atmosphere), Daniel Hoherd, Troy Holden, Bob Horowitz, Bhautik Joshi, David Lytle, Calvina Nguyen, Julie Michelle Sparenberg, Moncrief Speaks, Doctor Popular, Sergio Ruiz, Hep Svadja, Jeremy Whiteman, Jon Wollenhaupt and yours truly (me).

You can also bring your own Muni photo to be included on the wall of commuter contributions and win a novelty slide viewer door prize.

In Transit: San Francisco’s Daily Commute in Words and Pictures
Friday, Nov. 30, 6:30 – 9 p.m.
Harvey Milk Photo Center
50 Scott Street (Duboce Park)

Then you can swing on over to the Mission Local party at 780 Cafe. It’s their 4th birthday and they’re raising funds to be able to continue reporting and exploring the life and times of our great neighborhood. Food, drinks, raffle and music by Diana Gameros, who I’ve seen a few times at Roosevelt Tamale Parlor and really enjoyed.

Friday, Nov. 30, 8 p.m.

Fresh Wreath Breaths!

I must be some kind of marketing genius, ’cause the first thing I thought when I saw that sign was that after Christmas they could easily modify it to sell to a breath mint company!

Voilà! The graphic mostly works too!
