Obama Wins the Presidency!!!

Or rather, that was the last time I have seen so many happy people in the streets.  And now that the World Series will be a battle between Texas and San Francisco, why don’t we also make this about more than just baseball.

For instance, it should settle the Evolution debate once and for all.  If Texas wins, fine, no dinosaurs.  But if SF wins, the Old Testament will henceforth cease to hold any relevance in the education system (or legislature, for that matter).  While we’re at it, why don’t we also throw Gay Marriage in there too!

We Be Chicken Noodle!

Looks like We Be Sushi (on Valencia between 21st and 22nd) is busily expanding their menu to get in on the noodle madness that has recently gripped our City.  If the fancy to sample their new “We Be Chicken” or “We Be Noodle” happens to strike you, might I recommend that you also be sure to check out their extraordinarily curious bathroom art.  Maybe you can figure out what the hell is going on in there.

Wanna Get Away?

Might I suggest Jet Travel for your color-coordinated jet-setting needs?  Not impressed?  Well then, head up the street to their obvious nemesis, Jet Peru.

Oh, and if you’re going there this evening (from 6-8pm), take a moment to stop by Fabric8 next door for art and street food from the likes of Magic Curry Kart and others.  And don’t forget to check out this thing.

Giants FT3rdW at the Phoenix

This was the scene inside the Phoenix as the Giants won game 4 of the NLCS against those John’s Roast Pork-stuft, Pat’s vs Gino’s-arguing, Tacconelli’s (best pizza in the world) eating, Murray’s Deli frequenting, allegedly always-sunny Philadelphia Phillies.

Kind of reminds me of the scene at the Phoenix during the World Cup when Landon Donavon scored that awesome goal to propel the USA past Algeria in the group stage.

Where are you watching the Giants grab the pennant?

Ballin' Down 24th

image

Approaching from behind I thought, “Oh hey, here’s one of those Chryslers that’s supposed to look like a Bentley.  How quaint.”  Then I got closer and realized it was a Bentley.  On 24th.

They must have been getting tacos.

UPDATE: Apparently it is in fact an undercover Chrysler (still quaint) and I should probably take my employer up on their free vision plan. I still hope they got tacos though.

Typical Morning Market Street Scrum

This troublesome stretch of Market between 8th and 9th Streets seems to be giving everyone a lot of trouble, and this morning was no different.  Everything is wrong with this picture.  For instance, a white pickup double-parked in the right lane, which wouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that the right lane needs to be used by cyclists because delivery vans and trucks are blocking the bike lane up ahead directly after the barrier ends.  And how did that sedan get across 9th?  Doesn’t look like Muni or a taxi to me.  Hrmph.

Maybe I”m just grouchy because of the weather, but it still is nice to see some justice once in a while.  Luckily, it’s Wednesday, which means Butterlap Day!  See you there probs!

The Cab That Fugazi Used in Dolores Park

Our recent post where Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch expresses regret for having missed the Fugazi show in Dolores Park back in 2000 elicited all sorts of nostalgia from readers who lived here at the time.  Knowing that my friend (and bandmate) Eric was around back then, I asked him about it at practice last night.

Turns out, not only was he (along with the rest of the Mission) at the park for the show, but Ian Mackaye also borrowed the Marshall Cab that now resides in our practice space in order to play.  While I was still grappling with this information, Eric moved aside the head and revealed a surviving piece of masking tape on which was written, “IAN Return to j,” so that all of the equipment Fugazi borrowed for the Dolores Park show would get back to their owners.

It’s obviously been a rough decade for the cab after its pinnacle in the park, as this hulking relic is now merely used as a PA for our singer when we practice.  Nonetheless, stop by Secret Studio to give it some Pope-style reverence if you feel like your music is in a rut and need some transitive inspiration from one of the greatest bands ever.

Oh, and buy our record if you get a chance!

Mugging in Dolores Park Last Night

And it happened right in front of reader Andy’s place:

It was on 20th near Dolores, across from the Park.  A woman was
walking on the sidewalk when somebody got out of a car and grabbed her
purse, then sped off. (It was an older Maroon Cadillac).

He wasn’t able to get any pics of the vehicle or assailant, but did manage to alert the Twitterverse:

WTF?! Just saw a girl get mugged in front of my apartment. Cops showed up in less than 60 seconds (before I could find my phone).

The girl is not hurt, just freaked out and without a purse. They were in a car, grabbed her purse from her and sped off.

Incidentally, if you see a Maroon Cadilac driving fast around the mission, call 911.

We’re in communication with some of the folks involved and will have more on this soon, so be sure to check back for updates.  In the meantime, be careful out there!

Belle and Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch Says "Go Giants!"

Before breaking into a spirited rendition of Piazza, New York Catcher, Stuart inquired about our pennant-racing boys in black (and orange):

I don’t know how the game ended up today.  Oh?  It wasn’t good, eh?  Not to worry, we’re bringing it back home 1-1.  That’s how you want it to be, really.

Those Phillies don’t stand a chance.

Where will you be on Tuesday at 4:20?
