Where in San Francisco is Carmen Sandiego?

On the J!  Look alive, gumshoes!

(Thanks Christopher!)

How to properly toss a salad in Dolores Park (NSFW)

You need a spot with a good view, some close friends, and of course, Muni.

Ah, San Francisco.

Also, I might have made a Human Centipede joke if 30 Rock hadn’t just!

Humanitravels scavenger hunt this Saturday!

Ooh, this sounds fun!  New local volunteer travel agency Humanitravels, who specialize in sending clients to Peru and Guatemala on volunteer vacations, is opening its doors for the first time and to celebrate are holding an urban scavenger hunt in the Mission:

Participants will race around the neighborhood solving Latin America and volunteering based challenges. We’ll use the richness of the neighborhood to fuel the hunt. Some clues will be found in Mission murals, other in local non-profits, others still in local businesses which are also contributing grab bag prizes.

There’s loads of prizes as well including local restaurant gift certificates, discounted trips and random dollar store finds.

If you’re  not doing anything on Saturday come out and join!  The fun starts at Reaction Restaurant (2183 Mission St. @ 18th) and lasts from 2pm – 5pm!  Check out the Facebook event page for more details.

Radish* sprouting

UPDATE!!! The place is called Radish and here’s a sneak peak at the menu!

Following up on last year’s scoop, MM reader Laurie V. brings us an update on the long-awaited soulfood spot at 19th and Lexington, as well on some insightful commentary on the interior design:

*No sign outside yet, so don’t know what the actual name of the restaurant will be (though the planning permission letters we neighbours get have said both “Rad” and “Radish”.

The curvy counter is interesting — it forces customers to face away from each other, which you’d think would be unhelpful, but I guess would actually help create a sense of privacy.

At the very least, something to fill up on before shots and pool at the Lex!

In case you were wondering how I really messed up my shoulder.

15th and Guerrero

Albino Bianchi stolen last night

MM reader Brooks H. just got finished helping with all the neat Shop for Japan stuff to help raise money for tsunami victims when he rudely discovered that karma isn’t always cut and dry:

After raising ten grand for japan, my beautiful all white bianchi  got stolen. One AM last night at 17th and mission they clipped my lock. There’s not another bike around here like it.

Let’s all do Brooks a favor and keep an eye out for this exotic bicycle.  These things are rare!

Hit by a car on Cesar Chavez

MM reader Missy writes in to tell about her harrowing experience this morning:

This morning I was riding down Chavez on my way to my house… minding
my own business… about to hit the bike lane near the on ramps when
all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye…. a red… thing….
coming *WHAM* car hits the entire left side of my bike throwing me
from it onto the pavement.  Driver stopped… even a witness stopped.
Everyone was very nice, and after much back and forth about putting me
in an ambulance I rode my jacked up bike back to my home.

Now, the reason I am writing to you is because I think that even
though Chavez is boarder line NOT the mission…. I believe we need to
bring awareness to how UNSAFE it is to bike there.

WE NEED BIKE LANES.

I definitely agree with her, having been hit before myself.  Luckily, change is underway!

In the meantime, I like to take the way more chill but way less convenient 26th Street as an alternative.

Shoebizness

Thing I like about about Valencia: how a dance party can break out when you least suspect it.

Old-school Hollywood-style bed sheet escape ends badly

You have to admit that you’ve always wanted to try this yourself.  MM reader Alexander K. happened upon this scene outside of Mission Creek Cafe, but noted that unfortunately the escape did not go as successfully as planned, as you can see after the jump . . .
