My Mission Playground at Adobe this Friday

With all the tech gentrification shaping the city lately, the Mission has become something of a playground for folks with lots of money, an artist Gordon Winiemko seeks to thoughtfully explore that with a new installation at Adobe Books:

For his first solo exhibition in San Francisco, Winiemko is channeling the indignation felt by many long-time residents regarding the new wave of gentrification into a playful, confrontational, and above all thoughtful meditation on not only what’s going on in San Francisco and the Mission in particular, but also the societal values that are fueling gentrification and income inequality across the country.

And, for the centerpiece of the exhibition, Winiemko turns the Mission into his own personal basketball court, drawing on sports as a metaphor for the “beat the other guy/winner take all” mentality that is imbricated in the American mindset

I never promised you a rose garden

But since no one in SF has a front yard anyway, here are some delightful tulips irises painted on the front of your house, courtesy of the Precita Mural Project!

Gardening, San Francisco-style!

Celebrate the season Saturday at the Adobe Holiday Party!

Sure sure, you can have your gaudy Twitter holiday parties at City Hall and all that biz, but I’ll take the awesome community spirit of the Adobe crew over that any day.  I mean, just look at this lineup!

THE RETURN OF CHRISTMAS KARAOKE

So be sure to brush on your Bing Crosby and come on down!  Check out all the details here.

Ready to make it on her own in the big city!

But right now she probably regrets forgetting that pink umbrella…

The Attic, gutted

Our pal Andy, who was probably the best customer the Attic ever had, snapped this heartbreaking photo and talked to one of the folks involved who told him that a new bar will be replacing the demolished dive.  As our other pal Inna notes:

I love how the Chinese lanterns are still there!

Damn, remember when the only thing threatening the Attic used to be that music-hating NIMBY neighbor?

Since Ed Lee keeps blowing it as mayor of SF, shouldn’t we just elect Frida to be people mayor of the city instead of just dog mayor?

Seems like a valid question…

Adobe and Smithsfits with more rad things to do for Halloween!

First up tonight, Adobe Books!  Or rather, UNDER THE SEA MACABRE…

Tourists are disappearing from fisherman’s wharf. And no, they’re not in north beach. As more and more tourists vanish from the fog-soaked piers, the seals of the wharf decide to take matters into their own hands. Maybe its the changing of the season; perhaps new zoning laws; perhaps renegade google buses are to blame; any way you look at it, something smells a little… fishy. It is up to the viewer to investigate the recent disappearances. Come get scared at the Adobe Haunted House on All Hallows’ Eve! Please be afraid. Our tourists need you.

Check it all out here.

And on Saturday when you’re finally done nursing your hangover and have gotten over your tummy ache from eating too many bite-size snickers, the 4th incarnation of evilest costume contest in Mission awaits at the Knockout…

All SMITHS, all MISFITS, all night long with a costume contest around midnight. 1st place gets $100 bones. Prizes for 2nd and 3rd as well. Nuff said…

Indeed!  Invite your friends here.

Phew!

This intersection wasn’t on fire 20 minutes ago

But it’s on fire now.

Behold, the new Whole Foods…Tit Mobile?

Not sure if this is real or fake (or some daft new food truck), but hey, San Francisco everybody!
