Spam comment asserts that the Mission is ‘full of punk rockers’

Spam has been getting pretty sophisticated lately, as spam bots have taken to commenting on specific stuff that attempts to make them seem like a real person.  Sometimes, they even get kind of poetic, as prolific spam commenter North Face Pink Ribbon attests:

The Mission is the neatest district, beautiful, and full of punk rockers. Which is, as anyone who lived there then will tell you, the way it still should be.
Alas, fashion trumps style yet again.

And this whole time we thought it was full of hipsters!

18 22 year old shot in the back by police while allegedly fleeing and brandishing weapon at 14th and Natoma

Details are still forthcoming, but the initial account has a kid running from police (his apparent transgression is unknown at this time; hopefully it’s not something as insignificant as vandalism) when he was shot three times, possibly in the back. Again, we’re still waiting on the whole story.

In the meantime, a retaliatory tag withe the word “KILLERS” decorated the Mission police station, which is currently on high alert. The neighborhood is swarming with cops right now. Everyone please be careful out there and let’s not do anything crazy, ok?

UPDATE: Now we’re hearing the kid was approached by an undercover officer and then started running, after which he was shot three times in the back. Why, we still don’t know, but please be careful out there everyone.

UPDATE 2: Mission Local has more details on the situation, but it looks like the person who was shot also allegedly pointed a gun at police officers.

What’s the point of staying at the Standard if you can’t ride your bike into the rooftop pool?

Chris Six seriously wants to know.

Can’t find a cab at 2am? How about a rickshaw?

Just don’t say you live in the Presidio, because that would be a loooooong ride. On the other hand, it’s a lot easier for wasted people to puke over the side of this contraption than out the window of a cab.  Of course, perhaps you might be inclined to skip the cab altogether and simply take a nap on the hood of a parked car instead.

Lone palm on lockdown

Is this really what it takes to keep neighborhood miscreants from making off with your potted palm tree? Aren’t those things already kind of heavy enough? To be fair, I suppose that anything that’s not locked down in the Mission can be interpreted as up for grabs!

Stair air

Siiiiiiiic triple insane stunt bonus.  That shadow is pretty rad too!

Hot new look for summer: Sombrero bike helmet

Not necessarily spotted in the Mission, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t the kind of thing someone around here might deign to don.  Although I’m having some trouble deciding whether this is terrible or amazing, I feel like the world needs to know.

How can we keep the Mission cool?

Obvs.

Guacamole champion to be decided at 1st Annual Guac Off this Saturday

There’s been a whole bunch of guac talk on this blog lately, and for very good reason:  we live in the land of delicious 25 cent avocados!  Got a killer guacamole recipe you’ve just been dying to unleash on the public?  Well, now’s your chance to pit it against all other contenders in a battle to the death (death for the avocados only, since they will be eaten) at the First Annual Indian Summer Guac Off going off this Saturday:

A party that will be showcasing the best Guacamoles that the city has to offer.  The winner to be crowned with the guacamole glory trophy, bragging rights until next Indian Summer, the title of official “Guacamole of San Francisco”, and a secret mystery prize.

You can talk all the talk you want, but can you actually walk the guac?  See if you have what it takes and check out all the details here.

Screw the cab, I’m just gonna take a nap on this car instead

Just wake me up when it’s time for brunch.

Aren’t weekends in the Mission just grand?
