Stick it to the Super PACs!

Normally we don’t get all that political here on MM, but with the election coming up soon and amidst all the misinformation floating around, we wanted to point out some of our pals who are trying to shake things up a bit:

Want elections, not auctions? Today, Stick it to Super PACs and reject the auction of political speech to corporate interests and the 1%. Join others around the country who are taking a stand to protect democracy. This post explains why the $433 million Super PACs have raised to influence this election is dangerous for democracy. This website will help you become a proverbial wrench in the gears of Super PACs via email, phone or social media. Take Action!

The safest way to hail a cab on Mission St

…is obviously to walk directly down the middle of the street barefoot while cars speed past you in both directions. This way you don’t even have to worry about choosing the most effective side of the street!

Ultimate ‘Go Giants!’ bike ride

Perhaps this bike ride, completed on Sunday by one Chris Phipps, is the reason the Giants were able to turn their luck around and take the NLCS.  Whatever voodoo may have occurred, the Giants now find themselves in the World Series again for the 2nd time in three years, even if last night’s rain prematurely put out all the mattress fires.  Oh, and if you’re wondering how he did the diagonal parts:

To get the diagonals, I stop the GPS at point A, then restart it at point B and it draws a straight line between the points.

Genius!  And that intense elevation is a great way to burn calories too!

Pedaler’s Chili popping up outside Amnesia

It really speaks to the quality of the product when the purveyors consider their food delicious enough to eat themselves. And I’m totally admiring the decorations adorning this little alcove, too, which come together nicely to promote the authenticity of the rustic fare. Everything except for the overalls! Why do people still wear overalls???

With that said, they do fit the theme, and I must admit that was some damn good chili.

Car fire at 24th and San Jose put out by axe-wielding SF Firefighters

It’s always nice when a potentially frightening scene is quickly resolved with particular badassness by our city’s finest, as reader and eyewitness Nikki explains:

Tonight my boyfriend when out on our patio to check on our dog when he noticed bright flashing lights and smoke rising from what had to be our street. Then we heard a girl screaming. We went out in the front to see what was going on, and the hood of her car was on fire, the flames doubling in size within a few minutes. The girl was pleading for someone to get a fire extinguisher, but before anyone was able to get one, the SFFD arrived, extinguished the fire, and axed the hood of the car to get it open. Total badasses.

(Thanks Nikki!)

Indian summer is back, bitches!

You know what to do, people!  Wear shorts and t-shirts at night, drink some beers in the park with your friends, stay out late and dance, call that cute girl/guy you’ve been meaning to hang out with, and just enjoy the fuck out of life.  Because seriously, if you’re not making the most out of every night this week, you’re totally blowing it!

Indian Summer BBQ at El Rio this Saturday!

Inclement weather bumming you out?  Don’t worry, it’s just a diversion.  Don’t think for one second that our Indian summer is over with!  Trust me, there’s plenty more where that came from, and what better way to enjoy it than by imbibing a margarita on El Rio’s sunny patio while a bunch of rad bands belt out the jamz?  Throw in some tasty BBQ and you’ve got all the makings of a fantastic Saturday afternoon!  And what a lineup!  Let’s see, we’ve got local faves Terry Malts, Sweat Lodge featuring Rocky whose Frybread continues to kill it, Big Drag with Josh Cobos of Bad Blood fame, and the just-added Broonies!

Check out all the details plus RSVP and invite your friends here.
