BARCHERY

Just be careful where you stick that quiver of yours, OK Cupid?

Way more romantic than a bicycle built for two

“Sure honey, I’ll give you a ride to work, and I’ll even do all the pedaling so you don’t get that cute outfit of yours all sweaty.”

If that’s not true love, I don’t even want to know what is anymore.

Say goodbye to Kelly Malone in style at Speakeasy this Saturday!

When people ask me to describe what the embodiment of a true San Franciscan would be, I simply point to Kelly Malone, whose contributions to the community through such institutions as Indiemart and Workshop SF have provided opportunities for all sorts of local artists and designers to find success in honing their craft.  Which makes it especially difficult to come to terms with the fact that she’s leaving the city!

But have no fear; she’ll be back eventually, and in typical fashion, she’s going out with one last bang:

So, Speakeasy and a ton of generous folks are helping us throw back to swamp jugs and old timey magic throughout Speakeasy’s Brewery and you can also hang in the taproom that we just built out (hence the theme) Here is what we’ve got in store:

- Speakeasy Beers, 100% of sales donated at Brewery bar & portion in Taproom
- DJ Sarah Delush, Malila Young & The Toursit!
- DIY Carnie Games & strong man challenge
- Skeeball, ping pong, cornhole
- COTTON CANDY
- MOBILE Kissing booth- feel free to wear it and hustle. Or
smooch me up in there please:)
- Epic raffle & booth of rad goodies, pretty wares, jewelry for
sale
- Photobooth by Orange photography
- Pretty Parlor & beauty folks doing Prohibition styling, mustache waxes & beard trims so you look the part
- Nails by the awesome Party Nails!
- Tattooed Lady (temp) tattoo booth thanks to Tattly
- Carnie food booths from: Southpaw BBQ, The Voodoo Van, The Galley, McVickers Pickles, Black Jet Bakery, Batch Baking, cotton candy & more
- Bands: Hungry Skinny
- Babes everywhere! I think like 20 couples now have met at parties ive thrown, one getting married this year. As well as endless shameful hookups. I hope this brings more.

So toss on your best 20′s gear…fancy or swamp jug & overalls! Hug and smooch the shit outta me before I go. Come out and have a blast! Im hoping to come back in the Summer at some point if all goes well♥

Rumor has it there may also be a booth where you can throw pies in the faces of some of your most-hated local bloggers to repay us for all of the terrible posts we’ve ever written!  Check out ALL of the details here.

Party to help create a sustainable Adobe Books this Saturday night!

Despite being one of the most revered community institutions in the neighborhood, Adobe Books has had some rough luck lately, but fortunately there’s a dedicated group of locals who have been working on a plan to ensure that this important resource sticks around:

10 months ago when we heard that Adobe Books was about to be forced out of business by a 4k per month rent increase, we formed a group to try to save it. Adobe has been such an important part of our lives as artists, writers, book lovers, and Mission dwellers — not only for the books, but for the impromptu events and gatherings; the gallery featuring local artists; the discussions, friendships and connections it has nurtured among us; and the generous, welcoming spirit of the place — that we couldn’t see the neighborhood without it.

We hope to create a new Adobe that is everything we love about the old Adobe and more — with a sustainable business plan that can become a model for other efforts like ours to keep culture, the arts, and small businesses alive in our communities. Come see a preview of our new vision this Saturday.

We’ll be hosting some of the Mission’s finest artists and entertainers:
Reading by Marina Lazzara, Chris Carlsson, Maw Shein Win, & Sarah Wishby from 7-8
Music by DJ Carnita (Hard French), 8-10:30
Photo booth by Shot in the City, 8-9:30
Rocky’s Frybread, 8:30-10:30
Snacks generously provided by our friends at Rainbow Grocery
After donation, complimentary drinks provided by Speakeasy, Trumer Pils, and Broadside wine
Participating Pop-ups: Hearth Coffee Roasters, Golden Collective, The Explorist International Records, Second World Farms

RSVP and invite your friends here, and don’t forget to check out the Save Adobe crowdfunding campaign!

Brooklyn taqueria promises to teleport you to 24th and Mission

While NYC may have us beat when it comes to pizza and bagels, there’s still no denying how difficult it is to get a truly decent burrito on the East coast.  Even if you manage to find a supposedly reputable spot, chances are you’ll walk away with a flimsy imitation wrapped up by some skinny-armed hipster (or even worse, THIS crime against humanity).  It seems like every year there’s a new taqueria claiming to offer that exclusive Mission burrito experience no matter how disappointing previous attempts have been, and B’klyn Burro is the latest to give it a shot:

Like Tony Bennett, I left my heart and my appetite in San Francisco’s Mission District.  But now San Francisco Mission burritos are coming to Brooklyn with a taquero (burrito/taco chef) from one of the most respected taquerias in the game. Bite into one of our amazing burritos and you’ll be teleported to 24th and Mission, San Francisco. Food this good needs to be on both coasts.  Well guess what, IT IS!

From the looks of things, this place will only be popping up at select locations this week rather than going the brick & mortar route, so any New Yorkers curious to test its authenticity better hurry up.  I expect a fully-detailed report!

Rogue meter maid crashes, gets helped back up, and promptly crashes again

Readers Meghan and Zach noticed that a meter maid Interceptor (or is it a Cushman?) had flipped on its side, but fortunately the driver appeared to be okay and was climbing up out of the side door.  What follows would perhaps have been the greatest Vine captured in the brief existence of that app, but you’ll have to settle for an animated GIF instead:

Good Samaritans assisted with righting the vehicle, only to have it launch into gear and jump the curb.

Maybe it’s not so safe for Allan to be riding around in those things after all?

Last year’s Valentine’s heart bike ride becomes Verizon commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG2DRiQt1b0

When I first saw this commercial on TV a few weeks ago, my initial reaction was “OMG, those Verizon people stole this idea from that Valentine’s bike ride dude from last year!  It’s a travesty!”  Fortunately, rather than jump to conclusions with an incendiary blog post, I did a little research and learned from the Mission Bicycle guys that the ad agency hired by Verizon actually got in touch to find the lovestruck cyclist who originally embarked on the ride and then went and used him in the commercial!

Mission Bicycle has the whole story over on their blog, so go and check it out, and then try your best to think of something even better to do this year for that special someone in your life!

Delightful Sunday puppet show upstages 24th St. BART megaphone preacher

20130211-100452.jpg

it was a lot quieter than usual outside the 24th St. BART station on Sunday thanks to a whimsical puppeteer whose presence seemed to dissuade the ubiquitous megaphone-toting preacher from his customary pulpit.

If the preacher’s faith was not already completely shattered by the fact that his lord failed to protect his congregation from this territorial incursion, surely this morning’s news that the pope has decided to resign has totally broken him.

The reason why everybody wears Adidas Sambas

Someone was finally able to shed some light on this important question:

Sambas are excellent shoes for biking around the city. This can explain part of their popularity. They have very stiff soles that don’t flex on the pedals and are relatively flat on the bottom which helps your feet fit nicely on the pedals.

N0w we can move on to other important matters!  Like why people wait in lines for hours outside sneaker shops for new Nike Flights even though they don’t play basketball.  And why do people who aren’t Crips wear British Knights???
