The Knockout is turning 10-years-old and celebrating with a weekendlong party!!!

Can’t believe it’s been 10 years already! Seems like only yesterday everybody was like, “What’s the deal with this brand-new bar having ALL THE BEST BANDS AND DJs ALL THE TIME and isn’t their ‘NOPE’ sign funny???”

Seems like only yesterday Jay Reatard (RIP) was playing a 10-minute (amazing) set there. Back when the stage was next to the bar.

Seems like only yesterday we were there for an Oldies Night, laying eyes on Primo for the first time, all that energy behind the decks, and we were like, “ALL DJs SHOULD BE LIKE THIS.”

Seems like only yesterday we were there for a Debaser around Christmastime seeing their Weezer cover band and we were like, “THIS IS WAAAY BETTER THAN ACTUALLY SEEING WEEZER!”

Seems like only yesterday we finally got to see the Dukes of Hamburg for the first time, at a Teenage Dance Craze party on New Year’s Eve.

Seems like only yesterday we saw Stokemonster’s big smile for the first time, greeting us crazy-warmly on our way in.

Seems like only yesterday we were singing “I got soul but I’m not a soldier!!!!!!!!” at karaoke there on a Monday night.

Seems like only yesterday we got ejected from a Debaser for stage diving (when Jamie Jams put on “Holland, 1945″ of course).

Seems like only yesterday Beth was on the door that night.

…………We could go on and on but instead let’s just watch some of one of Jay Reatard’s performances there, and then we’ll talk some more:

Oh and let’s quick enjoy this photo of Primo straight phase-shifting into another dimension that our pal Lizzy took back in ’11:

Weird Fish is now Urban Fish

Capp Street Crap reports:

Well, this is fishier than expected. Despite plans to reopen it as a French bistro called Bistro Le Bon Vivre by summer, Dante’s Weird Fish looks to have been renamed “Urban Fish.”

Recently, a new wooden sign went up. The Urban Fish menu posted outside looks to be full of vegan and pescatarian items, including some old Weird Fish dishes and new offerings like fish sandwiches and mussels and fries.

Crystal clear day on the bay means cool view of overlapping bridges

On our annual ferry ride to Burger Boogaloo yesterday, we were stricken dumb by the clear skies all around us. From as far away as the Alameda ferry terminal (where the ferry from SF makes a quick stop on its way to Oakland) we could see the Golden Gate Bridge clear as if we were floating right under it.

And what’s more, look how it was framed perfectly by the westernmost towers of the Bay Bridge!

(These photos, though shot on iPhone 6, don’t do justice to what was incredibly stunning to the naked eye — like, you had to be there.) (But anyway, take the ferry more often, y’all.) (Budget yachting, it’s called.)

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
