Modern Times is closing up shop. Capp Street Crap reports:
Never quite able to regain its footing since it was forced from Valencia Street in 2011, Modern Times Bookstore Collective is set to close next month after 45 years in business.
According to an announcement on the store’s Facebook page, the progressive book store will shut its doors at 2919 24th St. on Nov. 15. having explored “every possible avenue of support to sustain the store since its displacement from Valencia Street in 2011.

Maybe if they changed their business a bit to adapt to the actual present day, they would have stayed open. Of course they didn’t, and then people will bitch and moan about gentrification and whatnot. But guess what, they closed because there’s no market for a bookstore stuck in the mindset of the 1970s.
Word.
I guess an alternative bookstore was lost on you gentrifiers. The whole Mission is lost on you gentrifiers. Hey, what do I know? You’re too busy optimizing. Have fun turning the Mission into a strip mall.
