So much for sparing the air… This fire has been raging at the Sketcher’s building at the corner of Mission & 22nd street since about 6:30pm, and it’s now close to 8pm and seems to only be getting larger.
[via ABC7news]
UPDATE:
The fire appears to be centered on the building on the Northwest corner of 22nd and Mission, which houses Popeye’s. The Sketchers building seems to be safe at the moment, thanks to the efforts of the SFFD.
UPDATE:
SF Gate reports that 6 people have been injured and that 1 person has been killed. Besides Popeye’s, the building was also a residence for dozens of families. The SFFD was able to rescue several people trapped there, but the fire is still raging at this time as they continue to work to contain it.
This isn’t the Sketchers building, it’s the Popeye’s building.
I also thought it was the Sketchers building but it was just the camera angle
1 person dead & 5 injured and all you have to say is “So much for sparing the air…”? and lament the loss of Popeye’s? As my fine friend said – That’s some serious hipster bullshit.
Gross
Gross. Indeed.
No more gross than leaving a dumb hipster bullshit comment on a post like this. I mean seriously, give me a fucking break. It’s obvious that she updated the post as news came in.
Time to check Mission Local… oh, wait…
Sketchers is spared! : ) Beloved Popeyes is lost : )
Oh. And somebody died.
Exactly.
And, along with the death and the injuries, people have nowhere to live and lost everything. And won’t be able to afford a new place around here. (I know that people displaced by fire are entitled to re-rent in the same building at the same rent, but who knows if this one will ever be repaired.)
If there’s a community fundraiser like Mission folks used to do after fires, I hope Mission Mission helps publicize it.
and it will take a few years to rebuild.
And developers can drag it out and “forget” to notify the former tenants. Similar is happening now in SF,.
Oh geez, that’s a shame. That building is beautiful.
Why couldn’t it have happened to the horrible new building next door, instead?
Rent Controlled Ghetto.
40 more rent controlled voters gone!
Well, that’s depressing.
And GREAT at the same time.
I’m not sure I see any up-side.
Look at it this way: If the rich assholes who can afford high rents are the 1%, then there isn’t nearly enough of them to fill up all the apartments soon to be vacated of rent-controlled tenants by arson fires. Rents’ll come down in the free market! Up-side!
yo Douchebag.
who cares about a fucking fire? BOOOOOOOORRRRRINNNGGGGG. more tits.
