At a bakery in Venice, California. Avocado, pickled Fresno chiles, greens and sprouts. $8, and it was gooood. (Converts to about $5.75 SF btw.)

If you’re going to categorize any dish that has a piece of bread at the bottom as “toast,” then all pizza is also “toast.” So is any open-faced sandwich. A society’s gotta have rules, man.

The common thread in all these posts, besides toasted bread, is avocado. And, when you think about it, an avocado is about the same price as a beer (a little MORE at Safeway). So it’s not surprising that these toasts in restaurants cost a bit more than beers in bars.
This one, BTW, I would buy (given alcoholic encouragement).
Wait, what? I think you’re either buying extremely overpriced avocados or really, really awful beer.

Not everyone can buy their avocados at cheap Central American markets; once you leave the state of California, the price of avocados goes up, and even in San Francisco, at the Church & Market Safeway, $2 avocados are common.
Good microbrews, however, can always be found on sale for prices more in line with Scum’s averages.
That looks tasty. I would probably pay $8 for that.
Isn’t that just an upside down salad with a large crouton?
So?
So… its not “toast”.
That’s not toast. That’s an open faced sandwich.
