Remember those good ol’ days when Woody Allen was in the Mission making a movie? The film opens next month and is called Blue Jasmine, and the first trailer is out, in which Cate Blanchett refers to an apartment nicer than yours as “homey” and another guy refers to the neighborhood as a “big comedown” from what rich people are used to.
I can’t wait to hate-watch the fuck out of this with all my other mission natives!
“Oh great, of course she is gonna go sit in Dolores Park during this expository journal writing sequence…” (eye-roll).
Another reason why this movie is hilarious: movie centers around someone moving to San Francisco because they are broke. Given how inexpensive it is here, can’t wait to see how that all works out.
From the trailer it seems like Cate Blanchett’s character moves to SF to live with her sister.
right, cause she’s broke einstein….
Hilarious. Where do you work bro? Are you a rich resident or just a Mission fan?
reason allen sucks. Has sucked for 30 years, I cant understand why people like his films, except for rich people.
And I was buying lunch fixings in casa lucas while he was there. they didn’t stop me. I looked kinda like the film people. He can barely talk. he was standing there. I don’t think he even ‘does’ his films at this point. he mumbles. Talk to people on the ground in the film industry, most ‘famous’ people don’t really do shit. The main camera person, etc do all the ‘art’.
what’s the reason again? you “met” him for 30 seconds, but yeah go on….
also, they didn’t stop you from what? being a patron at the same store as THE woody allen?
Did I see the Ramp in there?
Yes!!!!
I think the “big comedown” comment was supposed to be sarcastic. As in, “I can tell you think this place is shitty and I’m insulted by that because it’s not shitty, it’s my home.” Or something.
Eh, I’ll see it. I love watching movies shot in SF, and my 14th St commute had me riding past the the movie shoot a number of times on my bike.
and he hasn’t made a good movie since he explored his perversion in Manhattan.
Good one, Mia.
Your first husband, Frank, was what, 51, when he married you? And you were how old? 21? My, my!
She was 19 and a virgin when they got together.
Who is he and who is they?
I’ve been eating ice cream in dolores park way before you could get there while your ice cream was still cold. The deal is not big. People be acting like they invented the mission. If you can’t relate, watch something else.
“Big comedown”, “apartment nicer than yours” SHIT! If you want to watch some shit written for 23 year olds watch the disney channel(TM)
And i’m i’m out, beotch
Me too. High five! This new “entitled” influx of fuckheads is driving me crazy.
?
“There’s only so many traumas a person can withstand before they take to the streets and start screaming.”
I think this movie is the origin story for at least half of our city’s feral people.
If you don’t like this movie, you can wait for the release of the movie that is currently being filmed on Hill Street, just off of Valencia. It is called “Quitters” and the director is Noah Pritzker (his family made a fortune from the Hyatt hotel chain). It is an “independent” film, but based on on the amount of equipment parked in the area, it is definitely not low-budget.
Based on the trailer, this seems to be a remake of A Streetcar Named Desire. I guess to modernize it, they had to set it in SF where…there are still streetcars? Anyway, not sure I want to see how pedo Woody handles a rape scene. And yet, I want to see the mission and chinatown and everywhere else here on the screen.

This comment was already made and rebutted.
You might notice that not only was that same comment made, it was the exact same sentence.
It’s called “spam.”
One would think there might be a filter for that..
And he hasn’t made a good movie since he explored his perversion in Manhattan.
Apparently you haven’t been to the movies since the Carter Administration.
I think the “big comedown” comment was supposed to be sarcastic.
xanax, pshaw. she needs a pot prescription.
More like Woody Alien, am I right?
The Setup: Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) is a woman who’s lost everything to a cheater and a conman (Alec Baldwin). She moves back in with her sister in San Francisco, and we can see from the beginning that things are a little … strained. The sister’s beefy male friends are worried. They think maybe Jasmine is using her. Meanwhile Jasmine is going crazy in a shower. Let’s hope this turns out all nice? But probably not.
What You Should Expect to See: Cate Blanchett having a nervous breakdown. Cate Blanchett drinking a lot. Cate Blanchett insulting everyone (“That’s why you’ll never have a better life”), manipulating people, and generally acting amuck. Alex Baldwin being funny. English actress Sally Hawkins looking charmingly out-of-place. Ditto for Louis C.K. Everything coming to a possibly violent head.
What You Should Not: Barcelona, Paris, or any of Allen’s dreamier locales. Likewise, no moody shots of carriages. Allen himself.
Likelihood You’ll Actually See It: Since this looks much better than the usual late-period Allen movie, and certainly more interesting, and since it features his best cast in a very, very long time: Yes.

you people are so obnoxious & full of shit. you think you’re just so “gritty” now that you’ve graduated or moved out of mom & dad’s 5-bedroom exurb house and are now slummin’ in your expensive apartments. grow up, stop try to convince the world of your hipness.
As a girl named Jasmine who lives a block or so away from where all this was filmed, I think I should demand some royalties. I wasn’t aware my alter ego was Cate Blanchette.
Aw, this was a reallу gοоd poѕt.
