Reader Tom asks:
Hi, I live over by Jack’s on 24th. The place has been closed since the new year, it was a shock to see it dark on a Friday night. No sign or notice stating that they are on holiday. Does anyone know what’s up? I hope the closure is temporary, no updates on their Facebook page either.
Website is still up, but it has no updates.
Anyone have any ideas? Did they fall into financial ruin after DJ Purple’s departure? Did the city outlaw the sale of single-serving drinks out of mini-pitchers? Is the Jack’s crew at a 2-week a team-building ropes course retreat? We must know!
Update: Kevmo fills us in:
It was sold over the summer (I think, it might have been more recently). New owners are most likely just getting ready to gut the place for whatever renovations they have planned.
“Did you hear that Jacks closed?”
Question asked to me by Jacks Thursday night bartender almost 2 weeks ago while he was bartending The Latin America.
jack’s was the worst bar ever. dj purple, and/or jamie jams, should inherit the estate.

pussy party cometh
It was sold about a month ago. They bought the whole building. Unclear whether or not the Jack’s liquor license was sold or another was transferred.
The new owners actually bought the ENTIRE building, not just the bar, so no idea what they might be doing with it. That area IS a little lacking in Chase banks.
Agreed. If there is one thing the Mission needs, it’s more Chase Banks.
Rumor is it was bought by a Mission St. bar. Possibly Bruno’s.
oh christ, I hope not. Bruno’s is a marina douchebag slumpit.
Somehow, Sushi Bistro managed to not Marina-ify the East end of 24th St, I doubt Jacko’s will either.
But, I agree. I would hope for something better than Bruno’s. I imagine that it would draw more of the douchebags that used to travel up 101 to ball on a budget at Whisper.
EILEEN and STEVEN SCHEFSKY bought the building.
They also own the building containing the NOVA BAR & RESTAURANT on 2nd street, amongst other properties.
Schefsky owned Cava 555 back in the ’90s, so this may be a good thing.
It is being turned into a trendy Japanese boutique and they will be selling kink toys all the way to Hello Kitty stuff.
