I’ve been meaning to go into the Detox Market since they opened between 21st and 20th on Valencia. Our friends at Vegansaurus said nice things about them and they have some lovely window displays advertising vegan products. But let me be honest here: the word “detox” grosses me out. It makes me think of those embarrassing friends of friends (we all have them) who go on a weekend drinking and taco binge and show up to Sunday brunch only to order a side of fruit and proclaim that they’re “detoxing.” Fuck that. I hate that! They’ll spend that whole day eating fruit and drinking some sort of filtered lemon water and cayenne concoction talking about how it does “wonders” to their “system.” It is gross, but I digress.
The Detox Market is actually really cool! A small portion of their store is dedicated to teas and premixed potions to help you shit more efficiently or whatever, but they also have a really nice selection of cosmetics as well as lotions, perfumes and even house cleaning products. Of course, all this is animal-testing free, vegan, and devoid of earth-harming crap.
Most importantly, they have cruelty-free nail polish!!! I still paint my nails like a six year old (aka outside of the lines), but I love me some animal-friendly, toxic-free nail polish. Even if you’re not vegan, you should care about what’s in your nail polish. Or don’t, you fabulous-looking environment wrecker.
The nice people who work there will let you sample some ~purifying tea~ and you can pretty much sample anything in the store. They also sell vegan chocolate and various spices.
The prices are a little steep, but then again, so are the prices of similar products at Rainbow. The upside, however, is that you can shop for your vegan sundries in a peaceful, calming environment as opposed to the clusterfuck that is Rainbow Grocery.* Check out The Detox Market! They’re online, too.
*Which I truly do love, but sometimes I…I just can’t.
You can get vegan nail polish anywhere. OPI is vegan.
I would possibly buy the stuff advertised here, and I realize that you can’t get and probably wouldn’t want nail polish in bulk, but I think that it should be pointed out that buying brand new things in tiny single-use packages is not friendly to the environment.
I would think that unless you’re doing your nails multiple times a day, a bottle of nail polish lasts a pretty long time. But, actually, I have no idea.
It does.
Let me strike “single-use” from my comment.
If you’re REALLY interested in avoiding toxic chemicals, wouldn’t it make more sense not to wear nail polish in the first place?
Nail Easter egg dyes!
But if you’re really interested in nail polish, I think trying to find non-toxic, cruelty-free nail polish is a positive endeavor.
Yeah! Vegans like to be fancy, too.
I never thought I’d be one to “get” flower essences, but I just wanted them sprayed all over me. So soothing. So detox-y.
I was such a hot mess when I went in there. Nice post!
I’m obsessed with this coconut perfume I bought there. It makes me smell like a tropical cake and I love it.
there was 12 hours of sunlight on the official day of the autumnal equinox and we were losing about 5 minutes of sunlight per day after that. other colors will stand out against white as not the hot water tap, because the hot water goes through your water heater which can have sediments and rust inside. got gold? get gold.
Nail Polish!! I am inlove with you. Hope I could find it here.
