I ran into a guy I knew from Occupy Oakland and asked him what happened. He said they were all sitting in Dolores Park & decided to march down Valencia. He said some dudes who he recognized from using black bloc tactics in Occupy Oakland Fuck The Police marches were the ones who split from the group and started smashing shit. The Occupy protesters supposedly were yelling at them (which was the reaction I saw last fall). After the November riots in Oakland, OO voted in a general assembly NOT to self-police, even though the consensus was that black bloc tactics were not the preferred method. They felt it would be contradictory to the movement’s inclusion of anyone who wanted to identify with it.
These tards have no connection to Occupy.
Consensus I’ve gathered from talking to OO and FTP-O is that no one has any idea who they are. Chances are, just a bunch of posers looking for an excuse to joyride our ideology, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were agents. Either way, SF Chronicle’s gonna drum this up.
But if Occupy wants to be “inclusive” of them, these guys march with Occupiers and hang out with them in the park, and Occupy doesn’t formally disavow…? IDK. Sounds like Occupy needs to actually stand up for right tactics, or learn that anarchy means, well, anarchy.
Kang: The problem is that the Occupy movement, with their philosophy of radical inclusiveness, essentially means that anyone who SAYS that they’re with the Occupy movement, kind of *IS* with the Occupy movement. And that is a terrible strategy for “winning hearts and minds”, as it were.
