That SF episode of The Layover

Good news for you non-cable-having freeloaders (self-included):

Yeah yeah yeah, it’s old news. But I haven’t seen this episode yet and just found this link. Watch in horror as Anthony Bourdain transforms your favorite hidden gems into perpetual shit-shows before your very eyes. See him go from “figs on a plate” to “two-fisted, meat-loving drinking town”. Quickly, before Food Network Travel Channel takes it down.

It was like one big hipster shit show.

But it was the most wasted I have ever seen Tony in all my years of watching him.

Seriously… he’s speech-slurring shit-faced by the time he’s eating cheeseburgers in North Beach.

Kinda odd that he hit the Tonga Room and not Smuggler’s Cove.
I guess hipsters like mediocre kitschy shit as opposed to actual good kitsch.

  4. StowawaySG says:

So relieved there was no mention of Ike’s. If the rest of the country knew we spend $13 on a sandwich, they’d hate us even more.

  5. zz says:

it only makes sense that he’d end his SF night shit-faced. oh, san francisco.

Can’t you Missionites read? Tony left Food Network before he had grey hair. It’s Travel Channel, dawgs!

Whoever put this together should know that “The” Bart is not the same as Muni Metro, and certainly not the same as that blue shuttle thing at SFO.

glad im not the only one who was really peeved by bad montage’ing of totally dissimilar transit systems.

Thank you for posting the link to the full episode; I had only seen clips. It’s great to see Tony get wasted like a true San Franciscan.

On Smugg’s vs. Tonga Room, you can’t really compare the two. They are two completely different types of bars that happen to share similar decor and drink names. They are both amazing in their own ways, and they are two of my favorite bars in SF.
