Uh, starting tomorrow. Congrats to Mission Bowling Club and the Roxie! Here’s some official stuff:
New Planning Code Summary:
Mission Alcohol Restricted Alcohol Use District
Code Changes: Sections 249.60
Case Number: 2011.0710T /Board File No. 11-0482
Initiated by: Supervisor Kim
Effective Date: December 15, 2011
The Way It Was: The Mission Alcohol SUD prohibits new establishments from distributing – including selling or serving – alcohol within the geographic area of the SUD. The SUD also prohibits the expansion of existing establishments that sell or serve alcohol. There were two specific exceptions from the prohibition: bona fide restaurants and nonprofit theaters (with live performers) could sell and/or serve alcoholic beverages.
The Way It Is Now: Two exceptions have been added to the prohibition, to allow single-screen movie theaters to serve beer and wine, and to allow bowling alleys to serve alcoholic beverages in conjunction with a full service restaurant that is integrated within the bowling alley.
Our buddy Broke-Ass Stuart (pictured) landed a regular celebrity bartending gig at Dear Mom, everybody’s favorite new bar. Let’s all go down there later and order lots of complicated cocktails!
This coming Friday the Lower 24th Street Merchants and Neighbors Association is putting on the first annual Las Posadas.
Join in 24th Street’s second annual community celebration of Las Posadas, a Latin American tradition of the Christmas season. Meet at the corner of 24th and Capp streets at 5:45 on Friday, December 16 for a procession and singing. The procession will finish at the Mission Neighborhood Centers building, 3013 24th Street (on the corner of Harrison Street), where there will be pinatas, more singing, and free food and drinks. This is a family-oriented event, but all people are encouraged to come. For more information, contact info@lower24thstreet.org .
Local comic Chris Garcia made this astute observation via Twitter:
“Pancho Villa aka Juan Swanson”
Local taqueria Pancho Villa’s bust of Pancho Villa resembles a certain character on NBC’s Parks and Rec, seen below, in an official character photo.
Ron Swanson
Got an IM from my buddy Josh:

That Tablehopper link delivers some bittersweet news:
If you recall, the building is slated to be demolished and turned into condos in the near future, so it doesn’t look likely that anyone will move into the space.
Condos! Yay! Read on for a statement from the Spork owners.
The Tenderloin Geographic Society spotted this object on a curb. They have a few guesses as to what it is, but I’m thinking their first one (Monkey hot tub, doy) is right on the money.
Speakeasy is hosting, and there’s lots going on:

From our pal Lauren Mc:
I just called 911 for a knife fight on 24th street. Suspect has been apprehended. Fighting bystander effect one day at a time.
Bystander effect is no joke! I watched 30 people see this going down and NO ONE was on a phone calling the police.
And her friends reminisce:
-I saw two dudes at 24th and Shotwell fighting once. One had a cobblestone and the other had a knife. Cops broke it up bearing shotguns.
-My neighbor called 911 for a knife fight between two woman on mission street. Here’s the shocker… The lady who got stabbed told the cops that my neighbor stabbed her. He was taken in and released few hours later. Some crazy ass people out there…
Nice work Lauren! Good thing there are no Lululemon stores in the Mission!

The artist Jenny Odell explains:
[R]ather than hanging out in the actual, physical Dolores Park, I’ve been spending hours cutting out every single person in the very crowded Google Earth view of Dolores Park.
I guess we’re a little late to this as it showed as part of a group show at Intersection for the Arts in October. But better late than never. Read on for more explanation and a look at all the people on Pier 39.

UPDATE: The show is up through mid-January!
